I'm Evan, and I have an '87 700F2. I run the QA department at a software company that's been spun off from their single customer (for now). The bike's never run for me or my step-dad (who gifted it to me 6 years ago when it proved "too much trouble to fix").

I was overwhelmed by the prospect of fixing it myself, as I have zero experience with motorcycle repair or engines. I can rebuild the carbs off a VW flat-4 in 2 hours or less, but CVs are new to me, and so are the rest of the parts on a motorcycle.

I'm rebuilding the carbs right now, trying to get her running. There'll be more issues found once I can ride her, but oh I want to ride so bad.

Other than that, there's not much to tell. Video games are pretty fun, I like TV and movies as forms of storytelling also. I read more than anything else. Nothing like a good book and a strong drink to finish the evening.

Good luck with the build Evan, there's plenty here with deep knowledge of that specific generation of VFR. Don't forget to post up some pictures.

You will be struggling if the carbs leak fuel or air when you try to get them working again, so you will need new carb bowl gaskets and ideally new inlet rubbers to mount them on. If you have to split the carbs you also need to replace the o-rings on the fuel tubes. The v4 Dreams site has some fab advice. http://v4dreams.com/maintenance.html

I worked over an 86 750 last year and had that running like a champ.

Thanks Terry. It's going well. Replaced the fuel line last night, hopefully I can sync the carbs tonight.

Here's a before and after from my carb rebuild. [IMG][IMG]

Its good practise to do a bench leak test before mounting those carbs up. Allow fuel to flow (e.g. from a suspended bottle) and see if they leak overnight.

    Good work!

I already didn't do that but I synced the floats and made sure the bowls were sealed.

Welp, I got it running for the carb sync, cleaned out the tank and filled her up, but I needed new fuel hose, because straight hose just pinches. Finally have some extra time, so I'm putting the bend in hose pieces with wire hangers and boiling water

I finally figured out what was wrong with the handlebars; some chucklef*ck decided the bike should ride higher and put the handles between the triple trees. It was such a bitch to get them off of there and put the shocks back up through the top triple tree.
