I know this should probably go in the noob section but I noticed ppl hangout in here more often. I bought the bike knowing it had some seepage in one of the front fork seals, I know replacements are about $20 but what can I expect to pay in terms of labor cost?

Also whats the best manual to purchase for this bike to show me how to do things such as oil changes?

If I decide to have the oil changed what can I expect to pay for this?

I'm new at riding and taking the safety course in September (earliest I could get in) but for now I'm just riding short distances on my backroad here and in parking lots. I still suck at downshifting and some balance issues from a stop. Any additional tips for a new rider to improve?

Buy a genuine Honda shop manual off e-bay. It will give you all the data you need and great diagrams to boot.

Change both seals as the other is probably near failure and you should have new fluid in both forks, not just the one with the new seal. Probably three hours labor to do both and replace fluid.

I've never paid for an oil change so I cannot comment on the going rate. Should be about $25 for materials depending on your choice in oils. (oh god don't ask about oil preferences:wink: ) Do a search for previous threads.

For better balance the key is eye lead. Generally you go where you look. Most people start out looking down at the road in front of them and not at the horizon which results in poor balance. Force yourself to look up and you will be more stable.

Take er easy and learn slow and safe.

    Welcome to our addiction!:first:

You know, the oil change is pretty straight-forward. Uless you just absolutely don't want to, I'd recommend doing it yourself. I would think a dealer will charge at least an hour of labor for it. Say 40-50$ at a guess. I think the honda service manual is the best, but a clymer or haynes will work for that. You could do the oil change without even those, though. AAnd I definitely agree with Jethro about looking further down the road. I was watching a new rider the other day and noticed how he focused in front of him and it really made a difference in his riding. We tried to encourage him to look as far around curves as possible and a good way down the road, too. I think if you start doing it early you'll reap great rewards from it as you learn.

Thanks for the help guys. I will definitely make sure I look further down the road. And I'm going to purchase a Honda Service Manual for the oil change.

If you can't find a Honda shop manula on e-bay, go to Helm Inc. and you can order one. You can even get an owners manual if you need one.

I'm wondering if we could at least link to a legit source for selling it. Anyone know the legalities of this PDF version? I'm sure none of like courtroom drama except on TV...
