So I just traded my running 82 yamaha Vision 550 for an 87 vfr 700 non running. Heres where I stand thus far. I can get it started w/ starter fluid but she wont stay running. I tore into the carbs last night and adjusted the float heights and replaced the drain screws because the old one were corroded and not sealing. The fule pump, to the baest of my knowledge, is non functional so I have it setup to gravity feed. I tried starting it today and fuel is now draining out of what looks like some sort of vacume chamber off the right side of the carbs. Th at part is hooked up to a hose that comes off of what appears to be one of the fuel rails. Im not sure if Im missing a hose or what. I have a haynes but cant find what that part is or any sort of routing diagram for the fuel lines. Any help would be great. Im sure Ill Have tons more questions as I tear deeper into the bike.

Sounds like a float valve may be dirty or bad causing it to flood. Very common.
