Sorry for the graphic nature of this. It shows a car pulling into the path of a person identified as the grandson of Jack Niklaus, the golfer. The rider T-bones the car and then hits a bus. The bike practically explodes. The rider is wearing a helmet but no other gear and he reportedly walked away from the incident. No question the driver of the car was completely disengaged: The car crosses completely over the center line to make a right turn. Here is my question: If you check the distance between where the bike is when the car first pulls into the street and where the impact occurs, doesn't it seem as if the rider is either not paying attention or going too fast for that particular road? He doesn't seem to slow down at all. Jack Nicklaus' Grandson Survives Scary Motorcycle Crash | Golf Channel

Be careful out there. Be responsible for your own safety at all times. Know what's going on around you at all times. When in doubt, slow down to give yourself time to react. I am not the most skilled rider and as I get older, I am losing my ego about that. But I pride myself on waking up alive every day.

He does seem to swerve left a bit though, almost as if he expected the car to stop sooner. Amazing that he walked away, looked like he may have launched / jumped up as he hit throwing him over rather than into the car.

It does look like he might have been "hauling the mail". Tough to tell from the bus camera but compared to the white car at the beginning of the video he seemed to be faster by comparison. Good to hear it wasn't the end for the kid.

Like the OP is getting at....based upon the car going by before him, and comparing his rate of speed to it, it appears that he was traveling too fast for conditions and/or inattentive/unresponsive to the conditions around him......AND possibly his headlight is not on (or dimmed by the bus windows?) or very dim. Either way, there was a bus pulled over dropping off, and a car on the side of the road waiting to pull out....he should have slowed down. I always slow down when there is activity like so.

To be a motorcyclist and survive you have to be on the offense and expect the unexpected, otherwise you are "pushin' up daisies." :rip: This is coming from a poseur who dodges the worst SoCAL drivers each day and lives to tell about it. Glad he came out ok.

Looking at the video clock, the car started pulling out at 5 seconds & the bike hit at 7 seconds. At 30mph you would travel approx 30yds in 2 seconds & using the land marks visible, I'd estimate that the bike comes into view at approx 50 yds distance, so he would have been travelling at approx 40-50mph so not to exessive, but still too fast for that situation.

A reminder to buckle that helmet, you can see it fly off and roll away.

Lucky kid. Maybe the kid was riding to fast. Who knows? My question is where the f#%k was this cager going? Doesn't appear to be going left or right. In front seems to be a driveway. It actually looks like the car was turning into the bus before the accident happened.
