    Good evening all,

A quick intro post, having already made use of the helpful knowledge over in the mechanical section.

I'm the new owner of a 2001 5th Gen VFR.

This is my first bike following a 5 or so year break. It's my first 'older' bike, and also the first one that I'm looking to maintain and keep on the road myself (within reason!) long term.

It's in quite good condition from what I can see, but with 50k miles and no service history, inevitably she'll need a bit of TLC here and there as the years go on...

Currently on the to do list...

    Volt meter.
    New R/R (directly soldered in).
Solder the earth block up and add a bigger earth.

Thanks already to those who have offered a helpful and friendly hand.

You had mentioned 9 previous owners......I would grab a good pint of Stout, a chair to sit on by the bike and try to figure out waht has been done in the past....
Some? Or none? At 50k you could build a good list.....:bruce2:

BTW, a new stator is a strong possibility for your to do list.

With the Earth Block - From memory there are two of the Green wires that are Genuine Grounds (possibly the slightly heavier gauge ones), all the others are ground seeking wires from various devices coming into the common buss bar arrangement. There is (normally) never an issue with the two Genuine Ground wires.
So if your are intending on neatly soldering the whole bunch together, and to keep it simple, there is NO need to add an additional Earth wire, no harm if you do though!

    Hmmmm (thoughtful/worried emoji)

Would you/anybody be kind enough to drop me a 'top 10' list of common replacement?

From what I can read, other than these electrical gremlins and the exhaust downpipes (which have been upgraded to stainless on it) the rest of the bike is pretty resilient other than standard maintenance items?

I'll seek out a drink and chair in the meantime!!
