I parked the bike last week and she was running fine. I tried to crank it this morning and no luck. It's an 02 with 1600 miles on it. I pulled the air filter and checked it and it looks great. It's getting fuel I can smell it. While I had the air filter out I decided to shoot a little starting fluid in it. Still nothing it's not even trying to crank. It's never given any problems in the past. Any suggestions?

If the bike is not turning over the first thing to check would be the battery. If you battery is the original it is most likely going to need to be replaced. My original battery lasted 5 years and at the end it would only crank the bike over for a few seconds before it would run out of juice.

Air filter is not gonna be your problem if the bike will not turn over. As was suggested, it will probably be your battery (or ecu, or something electrical) if the bike will not crank. I would first of all test your voltage with a multimeter to see if it is at least 12.7 volts or greater. It probably is not. If the battery is older, it can just konk out all of a sudden. I would take it out, put it on a slow trickle charge all night, then try it again. If that was it, then your battery is probably taking a :bs:

Oh, and be sure to check that your kill switch is on "run".....happened to me before. haha. Has the wiring harness recall been done on this bike? You can check by looking at the VIN I believe...they put a punch in it....or call up honda and give them your VIN and ask them to check. If not, take it to a dealer for the recall.

BTW....welcome to the forum. Mi Casa es Su Casa hombre!

Hey Stuka, a racer I know forgot to turn his kill switch one at the track before a race. Him and his wife were frantically trying to push start his two-stroke race bike. Finally (and after a couple passes up and down the hot pit) some dude said "Why don't you put your kill switch to on"?

    LOL!

Needless to say he was PISSED! But came in third in the race.

If the bike isn't turning over it could also be a faulty side stand switch. When you turn the key to the on position do your lights and gauges turn on??

Thanks for the input guys it's greatly appreciated. The battery on the bike is brand new, the old one had a dead cell. I changed it the day before I parked it last week. My local Honda dealer didn't have one in stock but a local battery dealer had one. I must add that I didn't expect it to be so expensive, but never the less it is the battery model that the bike calls for, (non spillable gelcell). The old battery was not staying charged. I played with the shut off switch on the handle bars and it seems to be functioning properly. When the switch is in the off position the starter won't spin the engine but whe the run position is selected it will, so I'm thinking the problem is somewhere else. I thought about the kickstand safety switch and tried to crank it with the kickstand up, and down while pulling the clutch. Before I start pulling off the side panels does anyone know a way to test the kickstand safety switch? Now for the wireing recall, the previous owner said that he brought it in and had it repaired. I would like to beleive him considering he was aware of the problem, but who knows. Thanks for the help guys. One other thing the bike has 16000 miles on it I'm not sure if that's relevant but I do plan to let the Honda dealer service it for it's 16000 mile scheduled maintanence, however Id like to get it started and ride it in instead of pushing it haha. I realy enjoy this machine more than any of my previous bikes in the past. Once again thanks for the help and all suggestions are welcome.

pull a plug wire and see if you get sparks when cranking.

If the engine is spinning when the kill switch is in the on position then there is nothing wrong with the sidestand switch. When you turn the key to the on position do you hear the fuel pump priming itself?

The fel pump primes up like normal when you turn the key on and the fi light goes off like normal. But when I go to crank it it just turns over without any hope. It's not even trying to run. I believe it's getting fuel I can smell it. This weekend I'll pull one of the plugs and check it for spark and fouling. But I beleive this may be an electrical issue. I just hope it's a minor one.

Has the wiring harness recall been done? See my prior post. As Sman suggested, check for a spark.
