So i just got a 2000 VFR800FI and it has no plastics and no lights, nothin. it idles in between 2K-3K and the engine temp doesnt show anymore. Last night somehow the bike got knocked over as wel and now wont start, it sounds like its getting fuel and only sometimes does it sound like anything in the engine is actually moving, mostly just hear the fuel being injected and the sparkplug, but no movement.... just got this bike, its my first, and i dont know much about engines, any and all help would be appreciated

first off download a manual > link below
    http://vfrworld.com/forums/specifications/3161-downloadable-parts-catalogs-service-manuals.html
it sounds like the tip sensor is stuck from the bike falling. find it in the manual and jump it so you can elim that problem.
the idle sounds like you got a huge vacum leack, remove FI and ck the rubber boots, or maybe someone tried to get it running and gave up and never tightened them back up, also dump a set of plugs in her to start w/ a clean set.
this is going to take a bit, so post what you find and we shall go from there.

+1 on the spark plugs. Maybe syphon out the fuel and put some clean fresh gas in it as well. Who knows how long it has been in there.

typical battery will run from 50 to 100 bucks depending on how picky you are.

I use the cheapy spark plugs too (NGK) and I think they run about 8-10 bucks a piece.

    Good luck!

    Welcome aboard
If the dash is blank, you have some electrical issues. The battery is a good start. Also check the connections at the regulator/rectifier which is located on the left side of the rear sub frame. If those are burnt or broken, that would explain some of your issues as well.
    Good luck.

On a side note, once you get the bike running I wouldn't ride it much without getting a set of fairings on it. I had the fairings off mine to change the coolant and I took it around the block "naked" to make sure all was well before putting them back on. The side mounted radiators rely on the fairings to funnel air through them. My bike didn't overheat but it heated up quick and ran around 205F as opposed to around 180 degrees. Not sure if anyone else has noticed this.
