I mean technologically and value for the money?
I'm lurking at this bike from some time and planning to get new 2017 on spring.
I'm concerned bit with fact though it's a quite a old model already.

    Considering also bmw S1000XR

    thanks

If you can find them on sale, which most usually are because they are sitting on dealers floors ... then yes!

I wouldn't pay full price for one though, you can find the previous years model for a steal at most dealers if they still have them on the floor.

But then again, it depends on what you want out of a bike. The S1000XR is a completely different bike than a VFR800. What kind of riding to plan on doing? What's important to you?

With the information you gave, I would say "no".

well, I have already adventure bike (tenere 660) and dirt bike so I'd like to have some sport-touring bike with more power I could have more fun on the tarmac.
So new VFR800 won't be a good idea... I thought that a bit too.
Wonder why is so different S1000, looks similar :)

    thanks

I agree with JB above. The VFR can't compete with the alphabet soup of electronic doodads offered on the Beamer but for me it has plenty of useful technology including ABS and Traction Control along with LED headlights which at least make the Honda LOOK more technologically advanced than the Beamer. The dash is also more high tech to me than the Beamer especially at night - I assume the XR has the same dash as the S1000RR I tested? The VFR doesn't really have enough power IMO to necessitate a bunch of engine settings but is still fast enough to do 0-60 in 3.0 seconds so I'm very happy with the power and it sounds fantastic :peaceful: The Beamer is also much more expensive than the VFR to buy and I assume to maintain as well - I remember reading a horror story on here from a member wh owned a Beamer and said he had to pay a billion dollars for a screw or something - LOL.

The engine of the Beamer is admittedly to die for but FWIW here's a vid I did where I compared my VFR to the S1000RR and ultimately fell back in love with the VFR :peaceful:

Apples and strawberrys here, one really shouldn't compare 1000cc to 800cc, even though in this case its the V4, having a great torgue curve for 800cc. Still there's no way of getting a round the difference in power delivery. What the VFR does real well is in the total package. The new 14+ VFrs ones are so Acura fit and finish, is beyond what the BMW has to offer for the money, considering the BMW is twice the cost in some cases. So if one can get over the power difference the VFR wins easily.

thanks, I don't really care about so big power bmw has, I use to ride 50-70HP bikes. What VFR provide is plenty for me. I compared actually only style of both bikes and look :)
