    Hello All,

For the past 2 months it seems to take 2 hits of the start button to get the viffer to start. I seems to have gotten more frequent with the cooler weather. The starter turns the bike over, but just not with its normal oomph. The bike seems to almost start then dies. Almost always starts on the second try. Runs great once started. If not the battery, any idea what else would cause this? The bike is an 01, no mods and this is the original battery. Thanks, David.

6 years out of a battery is GREAT!! I'd check the voltage while cranking. If it drops below 10v, it's on borrowed time.

Thanks everyone. I talked to the original owner of my VFR today, he says that the current battery is the 2nd battery and that he installed it ~4 years ago. He bought it from Honda (I mistakenly thought it was the original). Is it best to stick with the OEM Honda Battery or go with an after-market Battery? Thanks, David.

I recently hauled a load of batteries from the Exide factory in Bristol, TN. While waiting for my load, I could see the end of the assembly line from the loading dock, and saw every brand of battery you could think of coming off the SAME line!!! I've had good luck with about all brands. I tried an oem (Yuasa) battery, and it did about the same as any other brand I've used. I don't think there is much difference between the brands as long as they are the same type. Batteries are like oil, tires and other items which tent to spark brand loyality for some people. I just haven't seen much difference one way or the other.
