I have a 2001 VRF800FI (CA spec.) and want to replace the stock air filter with a K&N air filter. The bike has a D&D slip-on exhaust. I was just trying to see if anyone has this combo and if the two seemed to work ok together. I'm not really expecting a gain in performance, I just don't want to pay $60 for a stock filter every 12000 miles. Thanks, David.

Hey Wade; I have a y2k VFR 800,with a K&N filter and a D and D slip on, in addition I have a Power commander USB3 and oxygen sensor eliminators. With this combo I believe the bike runs very good. Now my bike is not the Calif. edition so that could really throw a monkey wrench into the works. I would recommend adding a PC3 and O2 eliminators.Anyway if you are not planning on modifying your bike , I would run the stock air filter. By using the k&n you will tend to lean the fuel mixture out even further. eddie

Eddie, Thanks for the reply. I thought that just adding the K&N may lean thing out further and I don't want that. I do not have any plans at this time to add a PCIII so I think I'll just stick with the stock filter. Thanks, David.

I have a 98 with the K&N and the D&D pipe and it has run flawlessly for 15K miles. The FI system will compenstate for the lean condition. After numerous plug checks all is well. I have contemplated a PCIII but just can't justify the cost as the bike runs fantastic as is.

Ken, I have also been considering a PCIII. I do not do a bunch of agressive riding, mostly just highway commuting to and from work. I have heard that it will sommth out the rough spots though. If you get a PCIII let me know how you like it. I need new tires before I purchase any "toys" for the bike.

+1. Mine is a '98. K&N and Staintune high mount. I usually ride with the spud (dB killer) in, but it runs well with it out too. No lean surge. No need for PC3 IMO.

Contrasted to my '05 FJR. PC3-USB installed and still have mild lean surging. REally needs a full dyno tune custom map. Maybe next season...
