is it the power commander iii usb?

bought a 05 vfr abs couple weeks ago. loves the bike. it came with staintune pipes and pciii.

i noticed that the bike is super smooth. so smooth it reminds me of the 90 pc800 i used to own.

i am now wondering, is the vfr so smooth because of the power commander? or is it like that stock?

to expand on that question. what exactly does the power commander do? i read it somewhere else in vfrworld that it boosts power by giving better air/fuel mix. is the different noticeable? is it possible to put pciii in the "disabled" or "inactive" mode or something so I can check out what stock setting is like? (don't want to remove it and put it back on)
