Is anybody going to care in years to come about VFR's I know people are repairing and getting some old ones back on the road but what I am thinking about is the DOHC Supersport Hondas that are being brought back to better than when they left the showroom. Some of the builds are just amazing to see, not so much modified just beautifully restored bikes. They have a real "cult" following. I guess with the VFR because they have been built for so long and probably so many built, people will just move on and buy a later model if they can't get parts. Obviously many will be kept in collections but I can't see them being pulled out of barns and restored with the enthusiasm the CB's are

I care (comes in for a hug)!!! I think people already do care about older gen VFR's, and it shows seeing how VF500's VFR750's etc, are popping up on the forum each day with either a rebuild plan or dream. The older VFR's already are nostalgic in the eyes of many right now. I have always believed that the VFR has had a "cult" following as well. The VFR is never going to be as popular as the squidlies fav's such as the R1, R6, ZX's and Gixxers, however, I do not think I would want the VFR to be as popular as the hot sellers. Then we would have our name dragged thru the mud such as happened with the aforementioned squidly fav's. Out of curiosity, do the squids flock to certain bikes down-under as they do in North America? I like the little tight niche market and community that we have right now. One thing I have noticed, is that VFR owners seem to be a tight-knit community always willing to lend a hand to help another out. That is one thing that I love about being a VFR owner...

It's hard to say really. Just because they were built in huge volumes doesn't mean that there won't be a cult following I mean just look at the Volkswagen Beetle or the Honda civic.

Personally, I believe that almost every vehicle offers something to someone that makes it or made it special to them at one point in their life. That and the fact that we all seem to want to re-live our past when we get older seems to be the driving (pardon the pun) force behind all of these motoring clubs and restoration programs on TV. We just love old shit don't we.

I'm not even sure what these squids are, must be some American thing  It is hard to know what really happens out here we have a wide smattering of all bikes, sure you see small groups 6 or 7 riding late model Jappers, see the odd lone VFR a mix of Jap cruisers and the rest are HD's We have the GP ride to Phillip Island tomorrow week and that pulls at least 5000 bikes but even then I would say that over 50% would be HD's. If I get there early enough I might try and do a walk through and see if I can count the number of Viffers there. I wouldn't have a problem counting the CB Supersports there would be one or two at the max, can't recall ever seeing one there before

When he mentions squids, he is referring to (in a generalizing way) inexperienced riders with very little to no gear that usually come home with a Gixxer 1k, R1/R6, or ZX (or whatever high-powered sportbike) as their first bike. Squids usually are prone to "revving up the engine" when they pass random people walking or at stop lights. They are also prone to crashing. Their goal is to look badass in their shorts-and-no-shirt-hat-on-backwards attire.
