I was sifting though some old pictures yesterday trying to find a particular one of my son sitting on an old bike I had back in the late eighties (a Yamaha Radian). Haven't found it yet but I did stumble onto this pic from 1975 showing a 12-year-old Ed Hildegard from Anoka, Minnesota (pop. 6,300) kicking ass and taking names on his stripped down, 1972 Honda Trail 50. Oh, you better believe we raced this baby too! Ol Ernie Gustafson, who lived up that hill just past those trees in the background, thought he was the shit with his piece-a-crap Montgomery Ward 5hp Briggs and Stratton poor excuse for a bike. Long story short I STOMPED his ass on his own turf no less. I don't think he realized that I had a two-speed gearbox until we started walking away from his rattling shitmobile like it was still on the trackstand. The yellow one is what they looked like when new, the pic of me shows a touchdown after cleaning a couple garbage cans. I suppose one could argue that kicking so much ass without using a helmet I may have also inadvertently started the squid movement, but my modesty prevents me from such claims. I'll have to let history decide that one... Ed
rock on... my first ramp I made at age 6 but my dad never took pictures of my early rides... he would just watch and shake his head... he was so proud...
