Hello Gentlemen (and Ladies, if you're reading)

Introducing myself, Tim P. from middle Ct. This is my first post, I came here seeking opinions and advice.

I've come across a nice VFR, a very nice VFR. Came across it in Feb and test rode it today. It's an 07 anniversary model with ABS. It's on consignment by the 1st owner at the dealership he purchased it from. It has 305 miles (as of today, me putting 30 on it). The only aftermarket features are stainless brake lines and front/rear light modulators, no bags, no outlandish exhaust pipes. It's cherry, not even broken in.

My impressions - refined, and very well handling. I didn't get to notice the VTEC performance b/c it's not broken in, Im not going to rev the hell out of it. It turned beautifully threw some curves I normally have to put extra effort into (on my Z1000). Best of all, is the riding position, the bars are slightly lower than the Z1k but still neutral enough a position that doesn't bother me. And I don't like SS posture, my last SS was the 929, my wrists cannot handle this anymore.

My only gripe is the unusually tight hydraulic clutch lever.

The bike is $9k with the mentioned ad ons, no bags, 305 miles. Down from $11.5k.

Have been looking for a sport tourer that offers performance, wind protection, low maintenance (I just want to change oil and wax the chain), reliability (Honda), and exotic looks without the Ducati pricetag and issues.
I think this is the bike that fits my criteria standpoint.

I know you're all taking advantage of this beautiful day with your VFRs.

Input, advice, what to be careful of, insurance, mechanics, electrics, etc....Please let me know. TIA.

I have the same bike, but with the hard-bags and a Zero Gravity touring windshield (6K miles to date). No problem with my clutch. Although it took me some time to get use to the touchy throttle in 1st and 2ns gear, around turns. Plenty of power above ~5K with one-up. If you intend to do a lot of two-up riding you might want to consider bigger bike (just my opinion). The ABS/linked brakes work seamlessly and are effective. Head lights are best you will find. VTEC kicks in at ~7K and makes a big difference in power (need to wait until engine temp. is 170 F before VTEC starts to engage). I sat on several bikes (GSXR-1000, Hybusa, Z14, CBR-1000RR) and VFR was the most comfortable for me (5'11", 170 lbs.). My longest ride in one day was 350 miles and I was stiff after the ride, but then again I am over 50 and wake up stiff. If you need to have infinite torque and acceleration then the VFR may not be the bike for you. If you want a refined sport bike then yes. Be honest with your self regarding what you really need and good luck with your decision.

That sounds like a pretty good deal to me, but then I really don't know what the prices are like down south of the 49th. I know my 06, brand new still in the crate was $16K. This one is basically brand new as well.

What I've come to realize is that you'll either love the VTEC or you will hate it. I've ridden a variety of bikes my entire life starting with dirt bikes and then moving up to dual-sport and then sport bikes. When the VTEC kicks in it is very similar to hitting the powerband on a two stroke dirt bike. Some people complain that the change is too abrupt and can be tricky when it kicks in while cornering. I personally have never felt unsafe when it kicked in and I've also heard that adding a power commander can help smooth the transition. For me the decision to buy was a no brainer. I got a great deal on my used '07 model, the bike is comfy and has more than enough power for me, and the insurance is much better that other "sport" bikes. The VFR is very dependable and has a long lifespan and you'll often hear people talk about riding them well over 50,000 miles. I think you'll be quite happy with it. Did I forget to mention that you can ride it all day long without feeling like you've been sitting on a 2 x 4 ?? The ability to easily add hard bags for some serious touring is a big bonus too!

    Regards,
    Rollin

Welcome, Tim. This sounds like a good deal. I have 2007 candy red vfr that I got this winter and I love it. I have about 9,000 miles on it, and I like it more every time I go out. I think it is just what you are looking for.

$11,500 was about the MSRP of that bike. So, $9000 is a great deal for an almost brand new bike. I have never figured out why someone would shell out 11,000 clams for a bike and only ride it 300 miles before selling it. I've seen plenty of them, just can't figure it out. I put 300 miles on mine the first day!! Buy it, you'll love it.
