Hello all, My name is Jeff, I'm from Houston, Tx and I love to ride my 07 VFR. I have been an inactive member for some time now so I thought I’d make a change (NO! that is not an Obama reference). I am 25 yrs. old which I think makes me pretty young around here right? no? I try to stay away from the road racers and speed freaks that my age group tends to represent (no offense). I am from the school of "all the gear-all the time" and safety is first. But, I still like to push my own limits on the right road, in the right conditions. I mostly tour, but IMO there is no mode of travel like a motorcycle, whether its even a ride across town or across the street. I have done most of my touring in the west, about 20-25K miles, mostly with my old man who lurks around the forum pretty regularly. I was hoping to get some advice of a trip I am hoping to make in March and I thought a proper intro would be a courtesy before I started firing off questions.

Sry, I meant Western US. My dad used to live in Phoenix and he had an ST1300 and an 05 VFR. So I would fly out and we would tour out of phoenix. I’ve been to every state west of 95° W except KS,NB. AK, HI. We toured all of Arizona except for the SE corner in 3-4 trips. Also, southern Utah a couple of times, Death Valley and the PCH. In 2006 we put together a national parks tour that in which a ride report was seriously neglected. We left from Phoenix and hit CO, WY, SD, MT, ID, UT. December 08 he rented a bike and we went to Big Bend from Austin, Tx. And the latest may have been the best…For the first time, we shipped our bikes. From Houston to Portland, OR in an 18 wheeler. From there it was a clockwise loop to Langley, WA (near Seattle)- Vancouver, BC - Banff, AB - Missoula, MT- Boise, ID – Maupin, OR/Crater Lake – then back to Portland. When I think about the those trips it gives me goose bumps. I consider myself very lucky to have these experiences at my age and the comradely I have shared with my father is something I’ll never forget. I’m really enjoying the site so far. Thanks for the friendly welcome fellas! Hmmm, I think I’ll take the VFR to work today.

Oh good! I am glad you stayed out of the SE corner of Arizona. (Because it is the BEST part of the state in many ways...I HATE when people start going to my favorite secret places!! LOL!)

Well sorry to have stomped on your territory BUT what i meant to say was that i've been on every part of AZ except for the SW corner of the state. In the summer of 07 we had planned to do the Pacific NW & Canada Trip, but my dad took another job FAR, FAR away from AZ so we unable to make that trip and instead spent 4 days in SE Az. We left from phoneix and headed toward Tucson. We rode aorund Tucson for 2 days and visted Kit Peak, Mount Ghaham, Titan Missle Museum, etc. After that we headed for Hannagan Meadows atop the Coronado Trail. On the way we stopped in Morenci, Az for an awesom tour of the copper mines. From Hannagan it was west to Showlow and then drop into Scottsdale from Pyson. Compared to some of our others this was a simple and short trip but very memerable. This was actually the first time i had every toured with a passenger. I had a friend living in Phoenix at the time as she hoped on the back for the adventure. Good times. my father and I are actually heading back to AZ in April to rekindle old times and show my older bro around who has just got in to motrcycling. Is there anything we missed there in SouthEAST AZ. From what i know SouthWEST AZ is nothing but holt barren desert. My dad once rode to Yuma just to highlight the road in his atlas....said it was horrible.
Yeah, that's too bad. We had a great day of riding that day. We were a little disapointed when we left though b/c we were supposed to do the Sea-to-Sky Highway. It was August 09 and if you think back i'm sure you'll remember there were some really bad forest fires and the road was impassable somewhere around whistler. We ended up taking the Rt 1 east and north to Lilooet until it hit 97 North to 24 heading east. We stayed in Clearwater that night at a old motel called Dutch Lake In , I think. Well, what i remeber is there was a lake and the water was very, very clear. Beauitful scenery and the freshest air. I envy you. You have great roads all around you and some major deastination roads within a days ride. maybe even a ride to Alaska?!?
In 09 the Sea to Sky was all just a huge construction zone in preparation for this winter's olympic anyways. The Duffy Lake Road trip from Whistler, up through pemebrton and east is great though
Well, I had wondered if you had SE and SW Arizona turned around. You are right, the SW corner is very low desert (but there are some nice areas to explore...in the winter) and SE is high desert with some wonderful mountain ranges (Pinalenos and Chrircahuas). You have had some great adventures and to go with your pop is especially nice. Keep it up! Thanks for letting me have some fun with ya! Oh, to answer your question: the road from Willcox to the Chiricahua Nat'l Monument is really nice. Benson, Sierra Vista, Willcox are nice little towns. Tombstone is the obvious tourist trap. Mt. Lemmon (north of Tucson) has a 26 mile road to the top that is very curvy. Arivaca is a nice day destination (fun road). Lots of fun places...
oh man.you went allover AZ and didn't stop at tombstone.....you guys missed out..... tombstone is cool. Or it was 15 years ago last time I went... Welcome aboard
