    Good day,

My name is Aksel, I am 26 and drive a Honda Vfr 1994

This is my 2nd vfr (prev owned and crashed a black 89)

A week ago, some idiots tried to steal my VFR:(
So now I have to change the ignition and to do so, I need to remove the top yoke.

I never done this before, so I was wondering if I jack the front up, can I remove top yoke without removing calipers, front-wheel, and forks?

    Many tks for replies

    -Aksel

Sorry. I can;t help you out but I am sure soon enough, someone here with the knowledge will chime in to give you some advise. We like pictures here so post up some photographs of your ride. Too bad you didn't catch the son of a bitch who tried to steal your ride. He should be the benefactor of castration without anesthesia.

    Pics it is:)
My "New"1994 and old crashed 89.
Also a pic of what the stupid thieves did.

Think maybe the forks are threaded into the top yoke, so Wheel, forks all have to come off in order to remove. Will try attacking this when I get home.

    Hey Aksbro

+1 for what Randy said. Honestly, I don't understand the reasoning behind what some people will do to another person's stuff with total disregard of consequences to others or themselves.

As far as the bike goes, I seem to recall that I was able to remove the upper fork bridge on my 97 by simply removing the large nut (steering stem) in the center and and removing the handle bars as complete units. To remove the handle bars there is a stop ring (like a c-clip) in a groove near the top edge of the fork tubes and then you just need to loosen the handlebar pinch bolt and then slowly lift the bar as unit and set off to the side. You should then be able to slip the upper yolk off the tubes. When you go to re-install the upper fork bridge be sure to torque the stem nut down properly.

If you're unsure how to remove the upper yolk, there is a link in the Specifications section of this site so that you can download a factory service manual for your bike, and you should be able to find most of the information on torque values and instructions. I downloaded a service manual for my bike and it has come in very hahdy over the years.

Good luck with the repairs and I hope things go well.

    Hi Zoom zoom,

Your memory was correct, but i decided to pull out the forks as i noticed some surface rust on them. Gave them a quick shining.
Now Im confused about what to do with the ignition bolts that holds the ignition unit to the yoke.

But I have to say, up to this point the VFR has been a joy to work on. No nasty surprises except for the bolts in the ignition unit/switch (pics)

Hmmmmm, those certainly makes repairs a little less than easy. If they are screws/bolts, maybe you could get a hold of one with vice grips and try twisting one out. I have come to really hate tamper proof screws. It's a good thing they are there, but man do they make replacing stuff a PITA. If you have a local Honda dealer, maybe they will be able to tell you how they come out. When I polished the rear passenger pegs on my 97 VFR I had to remove the tamper proof screws on my seat/helmet release. I used a dremel tool to cut the head off the screw and then I replaced the screws with new ones afterwards. After replacing the screws I again used the dremel to round out the groove for the phillips screwdriver so that they could not be removed.

Sorry I don't have any more good suggestions. Insert sad face here :-(
