For all you guys who have looked into repairing a VF engine after valve train failure, I'm curious how many would spend money if they could get the parts.
I am rebuilding a VF500F and looking at valve and spring replacement, as well as, crank bearings if they are showing wear. Some NOS parts can be found but
I would like to find parts to address the valve failures. I plan to go with the hardfacing solution to address the cam/rocker problem.
I know that others have looked into valves from aftermarket suppliers but I have yet to find someone who has actually gone through with the research and had the parts manufactured.
My intention is to get an analysis done on the valve failure and come up with a replacement part solution.

I have an interest in this. However, I think anyone with a real desire to keep a VF500 on the road has probably already made provision for the inevitable engine failure.
In my case this amounts to spare engines. This topic comes up from time to time and you are correct, no one has followed through with an aftermarket supplier. On the other site a guy found this outfit who claim to have valve springs. No one has verified if they really can supply them at reasonable cost.

I have not verified this at all, but was told Kibble white has valves and the like.

CMS NL has springs... I bought a complete set from them last year. There's also a place here in California (RD) that advertises springs for the 84/85 for about $800 bucks, I bought them but they were the wrong size so I returned them. The guy told me to send in some OEM's and he'd make them for me but I just used my NOS instead. By the way, my cams and rockers still look new but that's only after 15k miles.

email ZACH JONES at RD and he'll make you a set complete with retainers, seats and cotters for about $800 bucks. You'll have to send him old parts for reference though because the ones he had in stock he sent me were way too big.

If you're going in that deep though, you should really consider a new set of valves too from the VTR250 if you have an 86 engine or at least 86 heads. 86 heads are wider but everything still fits even if it's tighter than the 84/85. Just my opinion based on my horrific experience. Also, good to know, 84/85 valve covers won't fit the 86 heads.

Of course now you're talking about spending way more than the bike is worth just on valves and springs! Crazy!! Just crazy...that's me! IT'S ZACH JONES (not Zach Thomas the ex-dolphin linebacker) SORRY!
