Here's the background I have spoken with two highly respected tuners from separate shops, in different states with years of experience. They have done incredible work on my bikes and friends bikes ... so I trust them.

Both say that self mappers like the Bazzazz Z-AFM and Power Commander Autotune are not worth buying .. and all I need is the custom map.

I agree the tuners can get a better map in the shop on a dyno.

But what I struggle with is how good is a custom map that was set up in a dry, warm shop on a dyno .... on a cold, rainy day on twisty back roads?

The combo I believe is needed is a custom map and a Bazzazz Z-AFM or Power Commander Autotune that "automatically" adjust the map for your riding environment. But the tuners only agree on the custom map.

Anyone have any thoughts why tuners don't like the custom map and self mapper combo?

they dont want you to get the auto tune because then they would be unnecessary. they want your money.
