Hi everyone, I am trying to find a set of carb boots for my 1986 vf500 interceptor. I’m not having a whole lot of luck, does anyone know where I could find a set or know if there is a way to significantly soften the boots? My old boots are rock solid making it impossible to get the carb back on the bike. I’ve tried a heat gun, grease, boiling them, placing them on at an angle and have had no luck. Thanks
I’ll give this a try. If they’re cracked it’s not worth putting them back on? I love working on this bike it’s just such a pain to find parts.
Tried that; wasn't worth the effort & cost. If you try it I hope it works for you. I bought these. Worked fine & appeared to be exact replicas. --> https://www.ebay.com/itm/361514379644
I like this cable lube stuff for slipping on boots/rubber together. Use a very light film of it. Work it on with a Qtip. Dont go overboard.... https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i...zBsMDbSMDv8xhC8tFv8DSzBrtd5/L/i-9FJwJMk-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i...KLW82g3ds6wLvv6mVdZF8SZZVgW/L/i-k3DRxBS-L.jpg I passed on to Captain a vendor that makes replacement boots n stuff, trying to find it... More Vintage stuff actually, but it was a great find. I have a few of those bikes too. The insulators Totaled TL posted are likely the only game. Yes, 25$ each kinda stings, but at least they are available and he said they worked perfectly.
