After selling my 4th Gen a bit over a year ago to deal with some financial issues, I am now the proud owner of a 1996 Honda Magna 750. It's not quite a VFR but it does have a nive V4 sound and it's even red!

My question...the bike has now had 2 new batteries in the last 4 months. Today after riding about 50 trouble free miles the bike just died. No electrical power what so ever. I even tried to bump start it with no success. An odd symptom is that there was a very high pitched whistling sound coming from the motor after the bike had stopped. I had heard the same sound after stopping before I had purchased the most recent new battery. Any advice would be helpful. The R/R looks to be a finned unit (just to give you guys all the info) but I don't know if it is the original.

what does the water level in the battery look like? what does the voltage on the battery look like? most likely it sounds like your R/R is cooked... the whistling? sounds like a pressure bleed off to me.. but nothing is pressurized..... getting back to the battery.... the bike could be boiling the water out of the battery .....

    Good luck

The battery is a sealed unit, however there is evidence of water leaking into the battery box. Also, I agree the sound is like pressure escaping. That would all lead me to believe the R/R has given up the ghost. A new one from Rick's is ordered and on the way. I'll keep you posted. I miss my VFR, but the Magna is pretty cool, too. This thing is way too fast for a cruiser!
