    Not a current VFR owner, but doing all that is in my power to acquire 5th gen before the season starts.

    Started riding 6 months ago and bought a GT250R. Was reading and debating my next bike till I came across the 98-01 VFR 800 fi and was hooked on the spot. This is the next machine I own. April I am heading out for a 6k mile trip cross country and I hope its on this machine.

    I have one question, is it ok to post in classifieds a non vfr for sale or trade for a vfr?

    Welcome to V4 madness!! I have to warn you about older VFR's though. It is common to get a full erection every time you start it up and hear the gear driven cams and V4 growl. It's a great all around bike that I'm sure you'll enjoy. I would say go ahead and post in the classified especially since your ultimate goal is obtaining a Viffer.

    Currently own a '99 its my second bike and there truly is just something about these thing that pushes all the buttons. However, having ridden some shorter (less than 1000 miles) trips on mine there will be some things you will definitely want for the trip. First and foremost is a Sargent seat, the stocker gets nasty after about 200 miles for me. I can ride the Sargent 350 miles and my hindquarters are the only thing thats not aching for a break. Secondly you'll likely want a set of helibars to improve the riding posture for touring, they are the next on my list. Good luck with the search, I may be stepping up to an ST1300 or an FJR1300 in the spring but after riding the ST I can say it is no where near as fun as the VFR, super comfortable though...

    Welcome to the show man!

    Sounds like you're kinda new to it all, so when you go look at what people are selling
    TAKE YOUR TIME.

    It might be wise to make yourself a checklist to take with you, so that you aren't forgetting what to look for/at while your eyes are glazing over and you're fighting back the drool (happens to me when I'm on the chase). Kinda the gearhead version of "Buck Fever" ya know. Some of these guys REALLY know thier shit when it comes to these bikes, so pick through the generation specific threads, & learn the troublespots on the genre before you even leave the house.

    Good luck on your hunt!

    @Rollin_Again

    Tell me about it. The 5th and 6th generation looks caught me by surprise. I gnored it thinking I wanted an adventure tourer, but at the end of every browsing session I find myself staring at a CL ad of a vfr800 drooling on my screen. Still wasn't completely hooked till about a month ago. Yup, heard it running and leaving a gas station nearby and that's all it took. I want that bike and no other.

    @Davis5g

    I'm in the works right now for making a budget just for modding purposes and working on the list of mods needed to make this bike my daily ride and a touring machine. Notes taken on the seat, thanks.

    "Some of these guys REALLY know thier shit when it comes to these bikes"
    That's what I have been told and what brought me here. I'm here to bathe in VFR wisdom before my actual purchase. I really can't tell you why, but this bike and I are meant to be.
    Just finished paying off my current bike loan and waiting on the title before the bike actually is up for sale or trade. Selling my bike in my area is posing to be a challenge. I know I have time before I will actually park one under my house.

    My bike should be posted by Saturday. Thanks for the welcome guys.
