I have an 86' vfr 700 and recently it has began to idle weird, and when it sits it will sometimes stall out at idle. If I ride it on highway then stop at a stop light it will idle around 1100 then slowly drop down rpms as a i sit there. I tried replacing the fuel fliter thinking that may ahve been the problem, but it still seems to be doing that. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? Could it possibly be an eletrical issue - like my battery not holding charge or does it seem more fuel / air / carb related?

it also seems like that I need to give the bike a little bit of gas for it to start up

Has this bike sit for long periods? Could the carbs be clogged?

Does you battery have enough juice? Did you test the volts with bike off, engine idling, and engine at 5k? Your bike should have at least 12.7+ volts at idle, and go up to 14+ volts at 5k....at least I know the 4-5th gens do. If not, could be a bad stator and/or R/R.

Also would not be a bad idea to check your air filter.

The rectifier was replace and it ran fine for about a month - then it just started idling low - idk Ill check the battery see if the battery level is slow - it may be carb not sure tho
