Hello all! My name is Kirk from Iowa City. I just purchased a brand new leftover 2007 25th RWB with less than 5 miles on it, on my 25th wedding anniversary, seemed fitting. Short story long, I quit riding and sold my 1991 Honda 600 F2, (awesome bike) 16 years ago, just before my son was born. I really didn't want him to ever ride nor did i want to influence him so I stayed away as long as I could. It all started again when last year when I purchased my daughter a Honda Metropolitan moped. I enjoyed riding as much as her, actually more! At 47 years old, 6"2 and 215 I suppose I looked ridiculous but I didn't care. The more I rode it the further I went. I purchased her a car this year and she quit driving the moped so I confiscated it. I really didn't want to spend much money (mistake) so I set my sights on a new or slightly used Yamaha FZ6. It seemed the perfect bike, fairly upright, descent HP, descent looks. I found and purchased a mint 2007 FZ6 Yamaha blue with only 2300 miles on it. I paid $5,700 and the dealer gave me $1,100 for the moped, I was elated, my first real motorcycle in over 16 years. At first it was fun, that is, until I took it on the highway or Interstate. 8000 RPM's @ 80 mph! The engine buzzed constantly. The transmission was clunky and the gears we're spaced to closely. Almost no torque and the power was generated above 12000 rpm's, oh i wish I had my moped back. So back to the drawing board, or internet. Why did all these bike manufacture's abandon me I thought? I wanted a mid size bike with torque and a fairly relaxed position that could ride 2 up comfortably without spending a fortune or buying a liter bike. I looked at Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, BMW Aprilia and yes even HD. After almost giving up, I made a trip to a town not far away who carried Yamaha, Kawasaki and Honda. It was a beautiful morning and a great day to make a road trip, not to mention it was my 25th wedding anniversary! After the 30 mile ride and feeling really beat up from the FZ6 buzz-saw, I was more than ready to part with this machine. Upon entering the building and working my way through all the generic looking bikes, I spotted a bike i hadn't seen before, one I had heard of but not really seen or paid any attention to. It was my 2007 25th RWB, it was love at first sight. I sat on it, I new it was meant for me, I didn't even have to drive it, it called my name. 5 miles and never been titled, it was meant to be. I drove it home that day. It's everything i expected and thought it would be. I smile every time I ride it. When I get off sometimes I catch myself looking back once, twice and sometimes 3 times. I don't foresee ever parting with this bike. I want to thank everybody on this forum for their posts, for it helped incredibly when it came to my decision. I'll post some pics a little later of the bike, my HJC El-Diablo helmet and Joe Rocket CBR jacket. The El-Diablo is a perfect match for the bike. Thanks again!
Welcome kdog and thanks for the cool story. There is always something special with a VFR purchase. Not just one of those bikes that gets picked for the heck of it you know...
