    I think it's a $500 bike ... needs way too much work.

So which speedo is the correct one? That's a rough 7000 miles traveled. And needed new rotors, front and rear?

Agreed... WAAAAAAY too much crap needed and questions that would probably remain unanswered. $500 would be my final bid.

"I took it to a shop to have the carbs serviced but they said they are already clean. "

"Bike also sometimes stalls when coming to a stop.”

    Yeah.... ok.

TRANSLATION: The shop didn't want to / didn't know how to service the carbs.

Shop he took it to probably has some kind of futuristic motorcycle tricorder from Star Trek and tells the “mechanic “ the carbs are clean inside.

    Bullshit, lol.
    upload_2024-2-14_11-3-24.png

98.3mph for me at Blackhawk on GPS data. Give me a long enough straightaway I bet I could have gotten to maybe 110mph. My SV650 hits about 128mph and it has ~15-20 more RWHP and weighs more than 50lbs less.

I bet it's the starter button.

My bid would be higher than some of your $500 bids. "I took it to a shop to have the carbs serviced but they said they are already clean. " This is pretty funny though.

When the 500 came out, it was the most powerful bike PER LITER. 68HP at the crank.

CW test measured top speed: 122 mph
    Wet weight: 432 lbs

    What's the wet weight of a stock 1999 SV650? I'm seeing 425 - 430 lbs.

    Mine too, Devil.

Of course...I have MUCH lower standards than everyone else here! :D

Seriously though....5 days left in the auction and currently sitting at $1,200. I'm thinking it will reach $2K, at least.

I've never heard of "Iconic motorbikes auctions" so also wondering if this site reaches as many as say FBMP, CL, or BAT (?)

I already have way too many bikes right now, so really and truly, unless it's an Interceptor that I don't already have (like this one) and is located close by (like this was isn't), I'll have to pass.

There's also the fact that I have this '06 Ninja 500R, which fits this 500cc sport bike category very nicely for me..... :)

Wet weight: 434.4 lbs., top speed: 118 mph

I'm sure it'll go well over what I'd actually want to pay for it. But if you were looking for a tank and/or fairings, they're getting really pricey now. A good tank is like $500 now.

Yea that 68HP crank number seems to get mixed a lot with rear wheel numbers in comparison. I'm surprised they hit 122mph though. Either I'm just slow or there's something wrong with my bike. I'm pretty certain I'm at stock gearing.

The 68 number just always gets me because I see peoples advertisements equating it with the SV's claimed 68 gen 1 horsepower number. The 1986 Racer magazine article has the VF around 51 wheel.

    upload_2024-2-14_13-3-45.png

Wet weight of a carbureted SV is 385lb (dry 364lb). I'm wondering if the numbers you got are from the modern one.

Not trying to create an SV vs VF thing here. They're just the two bikes I have the most riding experience on. And they're very different machines that often (incorrectly I believe) get compared as apples to apples.

Is literally what I said 4 (5?) bikes ago. Ugh. NOW I have no space. I thought I was out before.

I'm gonna get rid of all of my 1st Gen 750 stuff this Spring, except for a few choice pieces. I have ONE I want to build (VF750R) and none of the current VFs are the one I want to start with. If it never happens I'm cool with it.

Nah, I wasn't starting anything. Just curious about the weight. The numbers from an 84 500 are pretty impressive tho.

    Not you, me, lol.

This does have me wondering if my front brake drag was having an effect on my top speed though. 122mph just sounds so high compared to what I would expect. Now, my speedometer tells me I was going in excess of 110mph. I hadn't maxed out 6th gear by the brake point but I didn't have 20mph more.
