I bought an Icon TiMax 2 Mesh (^^^looks exactly like this^^^) jacket the winter of 2005 to replace my JR Phoenix jacket. While I have nothing against JR at all, the Phoenix jacket I had (circa 2000) was quite frankly a POS. It's stiching was shoddy, the zipper pulls were sub par, the collar scratched big time. I've seen a definite improvement in JR products over the years and now think JR represents one of the best values in motorcycling.

Back to the Icon TiMax 2 Mesh, mine is a red size large. I got a smoking deal on it from Ebay. I ride year round & recommend this jacket for anything above a steady 75f/24c. Like all Icon jackets, this one has a St Christopher medallion hidden on it. The bible thumpers tell me he's the saint who's protecting me when I travel.

    Pros:
Looks freaking awesome, real titanium plates, articulating "spine"
fits amazingly well, almost like someone made the jacket specifically for me
    super comfy
    armor is perfectly placed
actually has some heft to it, most mesh jackets feel flimsy, not this one
zip out liner (why anyone would want that in this jacket is beyond me)

    Cons:
snaps that cover zippers look & feel cheap
    no front pockets at all
internal cell phone pocket is very small

All in all, this is definitely one of the best mesh jacket around.

I totally agree with you KC10FE. I just replaced my JR Phoenix with this one and it's really in a different league. If you want a good mesh jacket without stepping up to the $400-$500 mesh Cycleport gear this is the next best.

I do not find the quality of Icon apparel to be as good as some of the other top manufactures. Icon stuff is more about fashion than protection - and it is grossly overpriced, but it does look good - real good lookin stuff!!! For price and the quality - the best deal I have seen recently is from New Enough. They have the MotoGP CorkScrew Leather jacket on sale for $139.00 in the Closeout section - ordered mine today. Of course this is just my opinion, but it is a great jacket that can be worn in the spring and summer. I do not mean to bash Icon, but their stuff is extremely overpriced and does not hold up at all. I had a pair of the Holligan gloves that started to show wear after less than a month. I am not very hard on clothing or equiptment. I still have a pair of Coretech gloves that are over two years old and in better shape than the Icon gloves that are less than a month old. Also, a lot of sites online discount the Icon stuff and most local stores in NYC do not stock Icon stuff because it does not sell well and people bring back the stuff due to quality concerns and problems. Just my two cents - go with what you like and what works for ya - That is what I do.

I agree 100% that Icon is overpriced. That's why I either buy at the local dealer that gives a military discount or I use Ebay. I would not pay full asking price for their stuff. Their products aren't the quality of say Vanson or Dainese but they are more than adequate for just about 95% of riders out there. I think Icon's main problem is their image. Much like HD, when your image is more important than your product or how that product performs, then you product will suffer.

Yo KC-10 I totally agree with you. Quite a few online stores are discounting Icon stuff, but you gotta either call them or wait for an email with the discounted price. I think it is a good idea to try and get the best deal from your local guy and use any discounts you have available. Again, for street riding it is not like you have to have a Vanson leather - you make a good point. On the street a textile jacket and pants is generally adequate (with armour of course). Yeah, the Icon marketing is confusing and they are very style concious - too bad they have to plaster the "ICON" name all over their apparel. I still would not reccomend Icon gloves or helmets. The quality of those two items are so important to me. Those are also two of the three hard fit items so I guess it is a matter of what works for you. The third hard to shop for apparel item is boots. Again, I would not look to Icon for anyting here. Boots, helmets and gloves are very personal type of purchases and quality is a major concern. Like I always say, buy what you can afford, like and trust.

I bought that same Jacket... A buddy of mine works at the local dealer and got it for me for cost, and I love it... I bought it after I laid my last bike down wearing a T-shirt. One thing you listed incorrectly.. It has front pockets... Look in the edge of the front stitching and there are two hidden pockets. I had the jacket for months before I found them.

I'll be damned, I've got the jacket with me at work today and there they are, front pockets! Right on, that was my only complaint. Well, I didn't like the flashy metal armor on the shoulders either, but a little careful airbrushing covered them up just fine.

Cool dude, thanks - would have been a while before I discovered them.

Where exactly are these pockets & can you post a photo of some sort or describe exactly where they are?

I know the TiMax1 had pockets but I have the TiMax2 which looks exactly like the one in the photo I posted. Try as I might, I can't find them.

I will concede that I'm a retard if I find these pockets.

    TiMax2 (exactly what I have)

If you unzip the jacket, and put your hand over your heart it's right there in the stitching behind the zipper... They're on both sides. The pockets have zippers also... That's if you have them...

Oh, those pockets. Those are the ones I referred to as the cell phone pocket. Mine has two & like I referred to in my first post, they are a little on the small side.

When I said no front pockets, I was talking about a pocket on the front of the jacket that you can get too without un-zipping. If my jacket has those, I can't see them.
