Welp I guess I'll finally post so I can uber cool and get my post count up instead of lurking. Or really so people can check it out, get ideas, help me, etc etc.

I did not want a VF1000R, I knew what they were. I don't hate the VF1000R, I mean if a VF1000R walked into my house I wouldn't throw it out because it is a VF1000R. This was a find. I am a huge Honda fanatic (rode many brands, all I've owned though) and I was browsing craigslist on this small island in Hawaii. Seller had no clue what it was instead of an old Honda bike.

I ended up buying this bike, mostly complete, almost running, for 400 dollars.

I attempted to get it started but it seemed like it was seized, but it would rotate most the way. I flushed out to engine to break it up and still same result. As I delved more into it, someone tried to do something. Noticed missing bolts, loose bolts, the usual. Gas tank was filthy and I have had enough. Immediately I started to take it apart to do a frame up restoration.

After removing the heads I noticed someone appears to have reinstalled the rear head and incorrectly (however no valve damage or piston damage oddly enough). When the engine was remove all valves close fine and the block rotates fine as well. But she has 52k on her and a rebuild was in order.

And I just continued to remove and remove parts until she was finally broken down.

She then sat for a few months while I attended to other projects, both automotive/motorcycle and house, sold toys, etc.

Until finally I got around to her just this past week. I had the frame sandblasted and powdercoated semi-gloss black.

Just ordered a bunch of bushings, seals, bearings, etc for the project. Just need tires, brakes and some suspension and she will be a good roller again.

I hereby nominate this thread for best intro ever.

Welcome to the site, here's hoping you post the rest of this resto-modded R you have planned. And all for $400?!? Luck and skill are a killer combo.
