Ok so i just got my bike painted. Putting it back together and i go to crank it. Well there wasnt enough charge on the battery, so i just hooked a charger up(while batt was still in bike and hooked up) I let it charge for about 15min and tried it. It barely turned. Gave it 15 more min. Still nothing so i got impatient and put the charger on boost(jump start) 100amp i think. tried it still wasnt enough juice and i actually smelled something funny like i burnt something :(. It came from the left side of the bike under the rear cowl. Then i decide to remove the battery and let it charge for about 8hours on a 2amp charge.

Ok so after the charge i go out try to start it and it just turns over and over. Never hits a lick.

-All the fuses are good (main and all others right in front of battery)
-fuel pump comes on primes then shuts off.
    -all lights work fine.
-the FI indicator blinks 9 times which makes no sense IAT sensor should not make it not start at all.
    -any ideas please help!!!!

Your manuel should tell you what the FI blinking 9 times means. You should start their first. In addition, do you know how to test your battery to make sure its still good?

You are right, good chance you fried something.

100 amp lucky the battery did not explode. try to find what caused the smoke, 10 to 1 odds that is the culprit, I am not sure where the ecu is on yours but left rear is where it is on the 4g

Page 5-10 of the shop manual states that 9 blinks = loose or poor contact on the IAT sensor or a faulty IAT sensor or a open or short circuit in the IATsensor. Refer to page 5-22 of the manual

    Welcome aboard.

Your regulator/rectifier is located under the rear fairing on the left side of the bike.

Wel if the r/r was fried the bike would still start. Right? It just charges the battery and gets rid of extra voltage.
I have checked every fuse i could find on the bike ALL ARE GOOD.
I smell gas so it should be getting it. Also hear the fuel pump.
Also the IAT sensor wouldnt cause the bike not to start. Right? "Intake air temperature"
It seems to not be getting spark. Is there a weak link between the battery and the coils anyone could think of?

PS I have scoured over the manual for hours, so i know most of what it says. Also i have been checking relays and connections like crazy with no luck.

Not sure how much you disassembled for the new paint but did you look at the wiring harness that plugs into the ECM. A small break in the right wire can cause all sorts of weird shit to happen.

Check ALL connectors you may have paint overspray insulating some of the pins causing a bad connection. Bad connections usually equal lots of heat. Now, 100 amps on a 12 or 14 amp battery, that could fry just about anything. Good luck!!!

NO def not paint overspray. all parts were removed. That said is there anyone close to knoxville, tn? Its about 45 min away from Deals Gap aka the Dragon. I would like to swap out Ecm's (computers) to see if that is the problem. I have a 5th gen 2001.
I just checked for sparked and i dont have one so there is the problem. Now i just need to find the origination.

Thanks for all the responses!!! :)
