I bought a 1987 vfr700 as a project that was partly disassembled by the previous owner. There are areas such as how the rear break caliper attaches to the pedal that I can't seem to find any pictures of anywhere. There are a lot of pics, just none close enough to really tell what is what. If someone would send me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it. This is all I really lack to pass a sheriffs inspection and get riding. Thanks

Yeah, they show great detail of the parts, but I haven't seen one that really shows the placement of the parts. Thats kinda what I need.

it would be instructive and possibly amusing to see a picture of just how the caliper attaches to the brake pedal.....are u missing a hydraulic line maybe??

if u mean the rear master cylinder (??), there's a rod, U-shaped clip and pin between the pedal and cylinder.

I have to agree it would be a custom design. I did in fact mean the master cylinder and how it attaches to the pedal.

Ok, I will try my best to cover this clearly.
First, there are some basics. Mechanically, there is a lever, attached at the bottom of the foot peg bracket; a spring for the lever to the cylinder mounting bracket; two bolt holes for the cylinder mounting bracket; one bolt for the fluid reservoir; two bolts for the break caliper; two bolts for the caliper stay arm; two hose clips; and the electrical connection.

I have taken these photos in order from the lever, to the reservoir, then back to the electrical connector, then to the caliper. In some cases, it was hard to see, so I used the tip of a flat head screwdriver to point out my intended hose, wire, bolt, or object. A couple of photos, the flash went off, but I think you get the picture (pun). Also, I show the ~ area where I would need to take the side cover off to further illustrate the hosing for the reservoir. Lastly, I didn’t realize I wasn’t on the “superfine” mode for the pictures, until the last few… and im too lazy to retake all the pictures.

    On we go.
Picture one, is an overview… from start, I.e. how the bike should look.

Picture two, (close up of the mechanical linkage of bracket to the pedal)

Picture three, (close up of the mechanical linkage from cylinder to pedal)

Picture four, (pointing out the ~ location of the spring… note you can only see part of the spring… this is the lower half of the spring)

Picture five, (pointing out the mechanical attachment point of the spring to the pedal arm)

Picture six, (time to remove the side cover)

Picture seven, (pointing out the mechanical attachment point of the spring to the cylinder mounting bracket, I.e. top half of the spring)

Picture eight, (hard to see here, but the area pointing out is the wire for the electrical… the wire continues up and to the left in this photo, follows the frame, and connects to the wire harness… this lights up your break light obviously)

Picture nine, (this one is terribly hard to see, but this is the physical sensor for the switch to the pedal for the electrical… the wires feed from the wire harness down to this switch… this is a normally closed plunger switch. Pressing the pedal down (I.e. applying the break), will move the pedal away from the switch, creating a gap, and thus, the circuit is connected, and illuminates the break light)

Picture ten, (these two bolts on the left of the bracket (top one indicated with screwdriver) are the two bolts which hold the cylinder mounting bracket)

Picture eleven, (pointing out the hydraulic hose, leading from the reservoir to the cylinder)

    Lost yet?

Picture twelve, (pointing out the hydraulic line connecting the break caliper and the cylinder)

Picture thirteen, (pointing out the banjo bolt at the cylinder, you may do some bleeding here from time to time when changing pads, or fluids)

Picture fourteen, (pointing out the larger of the two caliper mounting bolts)

Picture fifteen, sixteen, and seventeen.. (image quality sucks, but I am attempting to point out the smaller of the two caliper mounting bolts. This bolt is located just behind your right side exhaust. It’s a bitch to get to with a ratchet, so I would strongly recommend a ratcheting box wrench, or if you know how to do it, link two std open/closed box wrenches to get some leverage)

Picture eighteen, (overall image with side cover off)

Picture nineteen, (close up of lever area again)

Picture twenty, (close up of overall at high resolution)

    Hope this helps.
