So far I've put 75 miles on the new vfr. Damn, I love this bike but I HATE the break in period. My God, keeping this under 4000 rpm is like digging a knife in my back. 600 miles can't get here fast enough.

I posted the link to that 'alternative' break in method in the wiki... maybe you should check into it and see what you think... http://wiki.vfrworld.com

Check your owner's manual. Break-in is only 300 miles. First service is 600 miles.

read the article on the alternative break in. Makes sense to me. I've put 80 miles on so far and dealer told me to keep it under 4k and definately not over 5k. Screw that. I'm gonna let her loose when I get home tonight. It sucks even staying under 5, but I can definately tell the bike feels better at 5 and higher.

I made it like 200 miles staying under Vtech, then Id go to Vtech once or twice a ride, now im around 800 and i live up in vtech. love it. Restraint was never a strength of mine....
After 300, ride it like your gonna ride it at 2000, have fun!!

never owned a new bike myself. I prefer to let someone else absorb depreciation. As far as the theory goes, I'd probably do it if I had a new bike. For one thing, when it's brand new you have a warranty. For another thing, I don't ride a bike that slow unless I'm just putting around town. It's not in me.
