    First off, thanks to Dean for linking me up on how to take the front cowl off.
    I'm dealing with an almost dead ignition switch. A replacement has been ordered, but I thought I'd take the culprit off the bike and see what I can do, perhaps give it a good cleaning or perhaps let it hang until I get the new one and install it.
    After taking the front off and some other parts I thought would make it easy, I found out that at least the philips screws that hold the ignition cap in place are lock-tite and that the torx-type screws proved too difficult for me to take off since I don't have the right size tools. I'm almost positive they have lock-tite too.
    I tapped the phillip screws with a hammer -carefully- but was only able to take one off. I can't even tap the torx, which are below the philips to make them move. Prior to that, I used plenty of WD-40 and super lubricant, but no dice.
    Any ideas on what I can do? I don't have any impact sockets or wrenches and not even a compressor.

    On the other hand, my time was not spent in vain. I now know how to take the headlight housing off, and spent some time applying dielectric grease on some electrical connections.

    If they really are loctighted, try a soldering iron on the screw head.

    Heat is the answer. I couldn't get the big nut off my 99 fi rear hub ,just wouldn't budge.
    Heated it with my paint stripping hot air gun and bingo !
