I love riding the "back roads" at night. Last night I'm out farting around, and the moths are bouncing off me as if they're zero'd in on me. I don't get it how people can ride without a helmet. Even with a jacket on some of those bugs hurt like hell. I think the bugs are more dangerous than people in their cars.

Great ride last nite though. I love my hi-beams.

I hear ya loud n clear, ugggh bugs. I went through a swam of dragon flys once, what a mess! Wouldn't think of riding without a full face helmet, bug juice couldn't be that tasty, eh.

I typically avoid hitting the backroads at night. The "suicide" moths get thick, even with a full face helmet, and drives me crazy.
    - This year with the mild winter is gonna be really nasty.

With you there, rode through a large swarm of bees at 70mph a few years back felt a bit like a hail storm and very glad was wearing a full face and AGATT. For some reason was getting strange looks from folks at GAS stops as my VFR smelt strongly of honey for the rest of the tour.

    Short story:

My love for motorcycles came from riding on the back of my dad's harley as a kid. yep i said it.

But he told me this terrible story about how he was once on a back road, full face helmet, etc. and a hornet got stuck in his helmet. He crashed "gentlly" but right into a thorn bush.

    Bugs suck!

    Ride on

I had a horsefly crawling ON MY NOSE last spring. Was going 75 on a major freeway at the time so there wasn't squit I could do about it. Thankfully it was evening and the windchill put him to sleep before he started hacking chunks of flesh off my nose. Also: ever wonder why people with ape hangers and skull caps like to cruise at 10mph below the speed limit? This is why.

Way back when, say 20 + years ago, when I lived in new york, we all rode up to connecticut. No helmet law there. Tried it out. Couldn't see through the tears and was picking all sorts of crap out of my teeth, eyes and hair for day. Same with riding in shorts. Both were one time, dumb, young events. So unpleasant. Bad enough bees will find their way into your jacket, why let them have a free sting? I'm going to say going no helmet is a style thing, so you have to pay the price.
