Caught red and blues in my mirror soon as he operated the siren. I immediately pulled over to the shoulder using my turn signals, ignition off, helmet and gloves off, kickstand down, arms down to my side. Textbook approach positioning himself far behind my left rear field-of-view, his quick-draw hand upon a Glock sidearm.

He asked if I knew why I was being stopped? I replied "No Sir, I do not" without any hint of attitude whatsoever. He said I was doing 44 in a 30, and stopped to stare into my eyes.

It wasn't the type of gaze reserved for closeted homo's, the kind that hints at "Wow, you look really good in that leather suit, boy. Have you ever had another man handcuff you before?". It was strictly professional while he observed my pupils to see if they were dialated. I stared directly back at him when I gave my answer.

Asked for my reg, ins, and lic. He says "This is going to take awhile, sit tight"

"#@$%^! mthrfkr*&^%$#", I said to myself, while pulling out a Marlboro and lighting it up. Watching passing motorists rubberneck at me, and people walking by on the sidewalk made this all the more uncomfortable. About the fourth long drag off my smoke, he comes back up and hands me my paper. "I'm going to let you off with a warning this time"

    "I really appreciate that, thanks"

"No problem, you have a nice day"

Ever win a Black Jack hand in a casino after doubling down? Or gotten a really good BJ where she whispers "Its okay, go ahead"? Well, thats what it felt like. Right there.

My license is clean, no points, and my insurance premiums reflect that. I was not looking forward to paying the man and getting the knife busted off in my ass.

    Lesson learned?

    Respect.

Cops spend their entire shift dealing with people who lie, steal, and screw up. Sometimes beyond any sense of the imagination. As one cop friend of mine told me before, "Even the victims look like assholes after awhile"

So yeah, this ticket would have been a completly bogus charge. Wasn't like I had it WOT, carrying the front end through an intersection filled with pregnant nuns or anything. Nothing more than a friendly speed trap in a podunk village.

In hindsite, I think displaying a passive demeanor, along with acting the way a cop wants his pullover to act, won me the day.

Oddly enough, I was afraid to flick the spent butt curbside for fear he would come back and charge me with littering. Don't ask me what I did with it!

Not every violation results in a ticket. So, If you want to be one of those who does not get the ticket, then do what you can to be that person. And by cracky, you did just that.

In my previous life, my ratio was about 80% tickets and 20% warnings. Attitude played a big part. SOmetimes the warnings came "just because"

You did it right my man. Good on you.

As Randy pretty much mentioned attitude and demeanor can matter quite a bit when pulled over, especially when it's not for some insanely crazy infraction. Good on you! Love the quote
