I live in Japan and just bought a 2005 Japanese model VFR. It's a beautiful, red bike (will post pictures sometime in the future); but, the Japanese models are limited to about 80 hp!:pout: Do any of you know the procedures for letting the horsepower loose? I imagine it involves a pipe change and cutting a wire here and there or maybe replacing the onboard computer. Would appreciate any help pointing me in the right direction. Thanks.

Wow never heard this before, those folks over there are known for having the better HP numbers, sounds like a question for someone deep in the Honda trenches..

whoah, 80hp limit! I would have just guessed it was the same as the Euro model, but obviously not. I'd talk to some shops over there that might have experience with doing that.

Just got back from a visit with Takahisa Suda (Doctor Suda), a well-known engine tuner in Japan, whose shop is about ten minutes away from where I live. Unfortunately, I heard nothing but bad news as far as modifying the Japanese market VFR for more horsepower.

First of all, the pistons and camshafts are different than those in the export model. Secondly, the diameter of the exhaust headers is smaller, so slip-ons sold outside of Japan won't fit. He did say that 8-10 horsepower could be gained by using Japanese market slip-ons and modifying the computer, but those cans cost about $1200 over here. I have to ask myself if it's really worth it.

Just got back from a three-day trip to the mountains and found that even this model VFR has enough power for the kind of riding I do. A deeper, richer exhaust sound would be nice, though, and a few extra horses might come in handy sometime.

bad news indeed. i think I'd be questioning that myself. what about gutting your current pipe for more sound?
