Im shopping for a used vfr and am curious how to value a stock bike vs one with add ons. The few items im interested in are upgraded seat, bar riser, adjustable levers, luggage racks, n windscreen. Not sure what else r real value.

I've seen stock and addon vfr's priced the same. It's just location and timing.

Rule of thumb is add-on's are half of retail. Is this etched in stone? Not a clue.

It's very simple, aftermarket goodies only increase the value if the buyer decides the price is worth paying. It is truly no more cosmic than that. I don't care if the seller puts on a $1700 titanium full exhaust. If the buyer doesn't care, then the cost of that super-duper exhaust is irrelevant.

    KC-10 FE out...

Are the add-ons something you want? If they aren't, then the value is $0 and perhaps a negative value - if they are something you actually don't want. No matter what the current owner paid for them. If they are something you want, then only you can say what it is worth to not have to buy and install them yourself.

and you have to worry about who and how the accessories were installed

As for the change in BlueBook value, the change is virtually $0. Really it is pennies on the dollar.

I agree with this statement. When buying used, I always like a bike that is stock. Very rarely will you find a bike with aftermarket accessories that are exactly what you want. Often the seller wants you to pay for their improvements which in my mind adds zero value to the bike.

I really like this thread. Goodies are in the eye of the seller and his stupidity or desperateness. One million dollars or free. As stated previous, timing or patience.

I agree. Just the other day a dude tried to sell me a Harley with no tires. He said they were extra. I bought it anyway. I guess I showed him.

Most of the bikes I purchase are lucky to be complete enough to run. It has to be cheap to get me to purchase. I take all the parts but am not interested in paying anything for non stock parts.
