So I've been riding my bone stock bike for a bit and I've done minor stuff like lay it down to remove excess paint from the fairings to lighten it up (joking here guys) and install aftermarket brake and clutch levers, but I'm curious what can I do to make my bike stronger? I'd love for this V4 to have some balls to it. It just feels anemic sometimes... What would be good mods to do to start with? I'm looking at the Delkevic 8" stainless exhaust to give it more sound, but what else would be good for making actual power?

PCV, dyno tune and re gear it. Lose some top end but the gearing will make it quicker.

Don't know anything about gears for these bikes so probably gonna leave that alone. What's a good place to get a power commander from? And I have no clue if there are bike tuners in my area... Lots of car tuners around but not sure about bike shops with tuning capability...

spend about five to seven thousand dollars and get yourself in Aprillia RSV 1000 that's how you make your VFR faster

Weight is always huge - exhast, seat, yourself, etc.

But for $200 +/-, you could change the sprockets (gearing). Go down a tooth (or 2 up front) and up a tooth (or 3) in the rear. You'll speed-o will be off, so you'll need a Speedo-Healer. But you will be able to wheelie at will.

Anemic is exactly the word I used when I bought my 6th gen coming from my 5th gen. So far I have disabled pair, flapper mod, desnorkled, and staintune exhaust. That has helped the low end immensely. I imagine the Delkivics would work fine as well. Next steps for me would be the K&N airfilter and power commander.

That being said, you are not going to make this bike a power house unless you drop literally thousands into it.

Why is this engine so watered down compared to other honda V4s?

Well, I am no engineer... but having read everything I could find on forums and scanned articles we have to blame environmentalist and the EU. With the 6th gen, they supposedly gave up the Gear Driven Cams (GDC) because of the EU noise regulations. Then the emissions affected the fuel mapping and exhaust modifications. VTEC was supposed to give the bike more low end torque with 2 valves, high reving torque with 4 valves, best of both worlds (blah, blah, blah). But it really only seems to complicate things and maybe even robs some power before engagement. That is purely my speculation, don't take it as fact.

All of that being said, try the Delkevic if you are on a budget or you like them. I personally don't like the way they look on the 6th gen, but some do. I have a Delkevic carbon fiber for my 5th gen, so I know they are a good product, I am merely talking aesthetics here. Then do the airbox mods. I promise you, it will put a smile on your face then.

Lose weight and improve your riding skills. That's the best and most economic way to be faster!

I'm running 10.82 seconds at 128 mph on my 2007 vfr800 vtec. It is anything but anemic and I have no problem embarrassing any new 600 sport bike or fifth gen for that matter, that wants to play. Let me know if you want me to pm you a parts list on how to wake up your 6th gen. If not, feel free to do the same slip on, filter and tune that everyone on here is telling you to do lol.

I'll post up the gist of it, but every time I post up mods that actually add power, it turns into an engineering dick measuring contest where you are automatically wrong unless you has a dyno sheet for every single individual mod to back up the value of these mods. I do not have have the time or money to rent out a dyno every time I lift my tank, as I am a starving engineering student, but I do have about a hundred time slips dating back to 2010 showing a steady increase in trap speed with every mod.

(Trap speed has improved from the stock 116-118 mph to my personal best of almost 128mph. Of note, trap speed is mostly directly related to power/weight ratio, while e.t. is more related to skill level and ability to get a clean launch with out wheelying or breaking traction).

You're running the RPM too low. With good suspension and a good rider, the VFR will out-perform most squids on a liter bike. If you really think you need lower end torque then go buy a different bike rather than waste your time and money.

If you love your vfr that much, spend the money on upgrades suspension and a track day.
