How to electrically turn over out of the frame engine

I have a spare complete engine for my 1995 vfr750. It comes with the starter motor attached. The oil is dirty and I would like to replace it and have it circulated around the engine ie. build up oil pressure.

I'm wondering if I can use a bike battery and jumper cables. Can I attach the positive lead to the starter motor lead and ground the negative lead on the engine. Will this turn the engine over. Any advice would be appreciated.

 

Yup. Just make sure the engine is secure.

 

Removing all 4 Spark Plugs will lessen the wear on the Starter Motor.
I've also used a big Electric Drill on the Stator Magnet (17mm), saves on the Starter.
