I did a quick search & did not find anything, so I figured I would put this up for yall to check out.

in short some guy cleans & lubes his bike with it in gear & was cleaning the chain with a rag while it was going & cut the tips off of his finger. IMO, not such a smart thing to do.

Not the 1st time I saw similar pictures of exact accident before.Also he used w-40 which does nothing to chain except superficial shine.

 

How many people are going to do this to themselves while cleaning the chain?

 

How hard is to to just spin the rear tire by hand to do this. Putting it gear saves you.... about 10 seconds.

OK....got it.

I had an accident once in my life working in a shop.
It was only one finger. I feel very sorry for this person because the pain goes on for a long time. It is not like other cuts where it heals and all is well. With the fingers they will never feel the same. But the guy WILL be able to still do many things. Very sad story.
My heart goes out to the man. It will be 2-3 years before it starts to not occupy his mind all the time.

Oh ...one more thing If you have a bike with a short rear fender make sure your jacket or shirt do not get wound up in the rear wheel !

people do stupid sh&t all time, it's too bad that he had to suffer a permanent reminder of it. In a perfect world this would get to everyone and it will never happen again... I feel bad for the guy.

 

man, i feel sorrry for that dude. he seems quite contrite about getting caught out. as some of the replies say, i wish i coulda been there to help out and say
" DONT DO THAT".

its easy to take simple things for granted.

The words "can't fix stupid" comes to mind. ouch! hurt those nose pickers.

 

Pretty much the same thing happened to a guy on the VFR e-mail list a couple years ago, or maybe longer ago than that. But it affected him so badly that he totally quit riding. Sometimes we just forget how quickly really bad sh*t can happen.

 

Ouch that has got to hurt... At least it is only the tips and not entire fingers cut off.

 

I'm queasy about blood, but I took a look anyway. Blood on torn flesh and exposed white bone is nasty looking. Finger tips are extremely sensitive (lots of nerve endings), so that must have hurt like hell. I'd still be crying like a baby. Hope he heals quickly and can put it behind him.

 

Saw this myself a couple days ago...

Dude has to live with shortened fingers for the rest of his life now, because he was being ignorant of physics. Careful when you do maintenance boys

 

Sadly, all I can say is, been there, done that. Those pics really bring home how lucky I was to lose only the tip of my right thumb...
