So i found this 2001 viffer on Cl with a salvage title. The guy is asking 2350 for it. how much should I pay for it if the frame and suspension checks out and the mileage is reasonable. I have not seen the bike yet. From the pictures bike looks sharp. I plan on removing the fairings and checking out the frame and all and taking it thru some corners before I decide to to buy it at all.

btw I am in california i go to school in Davis and home is central Valley

    How much...

I just paid $2000 in Colorado for a 2002 with a salvage title. Dented tank, scratched stock cans, mix n match body panels, broken odo/fuel LCD and a blown fork seal. But I think I got a good deal.

    Insurable???

Can you get insurance on a bike with a salvage title?
I have been told that it is difficult if not impossible to get insurance for a salvage title car.
Same thing may be true for a motorcycle.

There is no problem getting it insured. Problem is getting comprehensive and collision coverage. They only cover only about half the value of a comparable clean title vehicle. But if you only pay that much to buy the bike its no big deal.

So I went and saw the bike. It was a big disappointment. The pictures the seller used were of a different bike. The windscreen and bar ends were missing. The brake pedal was broken. Fairings have some cracks but fixable and everything is there. The chain and sprocket seem to be oem and is worn out. the battery is shot. And he wont allow me to test ride it before i buy as they bought it from a salvage yard and has not registered yet. The bike has 21500 miles only.

So the bike appears to be have no work done after the wreck that totaled it. it had frame sliders on the right side and it seem to have dropped to the right side and dragged a bit on the frame slider and the handle bar. The bar ends might have been removed so potential buyers dont notice the rashed up bar end. They claim the bike to be in good condition and said lowest they take is 2150. But they dont seem to have a clue about bikes because when i said the rear brake pedal was broken they told me it has both brakes on on left and one right hand. when i told the left was the clutch lever he admitted they bought it from a salvage yard and are just selling it as is.
I did not make a offer yet. I told i need to find some prices and crunch some numbers before i make an offer. I was thinking i should not pay more than 1200-1400 , since i wont be able to test drive it and i have to assume worst case(frame and forks tweaked).

    Whaddya people think?
