I just bought a 1985 vf1000r it has 35,000 miles on it the bike seems to still run very strong. I'm impressed with how well the bike handles and that for an 85 it seems to ride out. I was just wondering how long these motors usually last before they need to be rebuilt. I know that how the bike has been taken care of plays a big role in it, if any one can give me a ideal of how long a bike like this should last as long as it hasn't been ragged on to bad and has had normal oil changes. I would truely appreciate it. I believe the bike has been in florida its whole life It seems the person I bought it from took good care of it but I don't know abought it before that.
My 83 750 has 58k on it now. I plan on another 20-40k. Yes it gets ridden hard at times. It's been well maintained. Remember motorcycle oil only no auto oil.
Yah i learned the hard way about the oil thing. I put a half snythic oil in my 06 prairie cause my dealer told me to. So when I changed the oil on my 82 900 super sport i did the same plus lucas oil treatment. Lets just say after 100 dollars in oil changes and 25.00 in brake cleaner to get the clutch working again i learned my lesson.
