I just joined the VFR family a short time ago. I have a Triumph and a Kawasaki as well. Now I have an opportunity to ad a gen 5 VFR. I have a new Gen 6. Of course, I plan on getting rid of the Kawasaki.

I was going to keep my new bike near stock. And if I do pick up the gen 5, I'd probably try to 'sport' it out a bit more.

Is that too many bikes? And would it be redundant to own a gen 5 and 6?

I (currently) own an '85 VF700F and an '86 VFR700F. I also have an '85 Yamaha BW200 and an '06 Yamaha XT 225. I would like to add an '86 VF500F to the lineup. In a few years I would like to pick up an '07 RWB.

Is there really such a thing as TOO many bikes?

never enough bikes, but the guilt....

I just felt a bit guilty about having 3 bikes as is. of course when I sell one, I'm back to 3. The guilt of course, is from each bike not getting enough time rather than fiscal/financial responsibility or too many toys......

I have a 6th G and a 1984 VF750F. Very different bikes. I am thinking of adding a Hypermotard or a naked of some description (I am salivating over the MV Augusta Brutale).

Personally, I think the 5th and the 6th are really close in performance and function. I wouldn't want one of each. Just one opinion. I am sure you'll hear others.

Have 2 vf1000fe, one stock and one modified, plus one 5th gen.

Up to now, they have never been on the road at the same time but this should change this summer. I will plate the stock vf1000f as antique (80$ instead of 630$ for 25 years and older) restricting it to road below 70km/h, which means a commuting bike for the city and the urban highway. I would be more super sport type but the license fees for these bikes is prohibitive here in Quebec (around 1400$). The VFR800 is considered sport tourer ("only" $630) and the vf1000f are too old so it could be regular (630) or antique. The sport bike list starts in 1985 and includes the vf1000r.

I've got 4 Interceptors - 1986 VF500F, 1986 VFR750F, 1986 VF1000R, 2007 VFR800FI. There is no such thing as too many. I used to own a 5th Gen and wish that I had kept it. I think it would go along great with the 6th Gen. I agree with Alaskan that the two bikes really are very similar as far as power and performance. I don't care what Gen VFR people have, I love them all.

At onetime I used to own three VFR's REEK,and before that I owned an '84 VF700F.
You can never have too many bikes. So don't feel too guilty about owning three. I currently own four. An '03 VFR800,'04 RC51,'95 Ducati 900ss,and an '87 XL600R.
My neighbor just built a new garage,it's more like a friggin barn though, the thing is huge. Said he's got some extra storage space if I ever decide to buy anymore bikes. Oh man that gave me the shakes when he offered, that is so tempting. I'm thinking maybe a brand new '07 RWB. Or maybe two!

Yeah, I'm leaning towards pulling the trigger on a 98 Vfr. 13,000 miles. $4000 from the original owner. Mostly stock. decent price?

That's a little on the high side. I'd try to talk him down. If the bike is in great shape, then you will end up paying top dollar any way. It won't hurt to ask.

+1 on that. $4K is a little high for a 12 year old bike. I think you can find bikes that old with that many miles for about a grand less all day long. I've seen numerous late 90's bikes with resonable mileage for +/- $3K in the not so distant past around here.

I agree with revguy. Depending on the shape of the bike and its service history, it doesn't make all that much sense to pass a great used bike up in anticipation of finding as good a bike for - what! - $500 less? That is a PITA as far as I am concerned. If you like the bike, make an offer in the ballpark and be happy if you get it!

thanks for all the input. after all that, looks like the deal is not going to happen. Seller backed out and now wants to keep the bike. I guess I'll just have to keep looking. And was thinking $4000 was a bit on the hi side but as Alaskan said, wasn't going to pass up a good bike just to try and save $500.

I have a 3rd Gen and a 6th Gen and they are two totally different machines. The 6th Gen is much more solid and comfortable but I'm not too fond of the VTEC. The sound of the gear driven cams on the 93 brings a smile to my face every time
