How hot does that frame get?

Hi, rode my "new" '93 VFR for the first time last night. Runs great, love the engine and comfort. My last two bikes were air cooled, this is my first water cooled bike.

I was surprised by the amount of heat that came out from under the seat and in particular how hot the frame got. The temp gage appeared normal. Is this normal?

    Thanks.

Yes, this sounds like on my bike...(-95)

But a similar question is occupying my mind...when I run at about 100 km/h the tempmeter is at the bottom range of the scale, when I run slowly in warm temperature the temp-meter is at about the middle of the scale. When on the scale is the fan supposed to start?

The frame gets hot because of the voltage regulator that is tightly bolted to the left rear frame under the seat. It is so mounted to shed it's heat to the aluminum frame. It is a fairly high rate of failure item (probably because it is potted and unable to shed all of it's heat to the frame).

The veefer motors are notoriously hot - especially the eariler models. Mine has always been a leg burner.
I just bought a pipe wrap kit from Summit Racing manufactured by DEI (see http://store.summitracing.com/egnsearch.asp?N=115+400384+4294918557+303954&autoview=sku ) supposed to make a world of difference, as well as produce bigger power through more complete combustion. I'll let you know how it works once I get it installed.

On the temp scale thing I notice a big differance between bikes of the same mode,l like 4G. Most of the time it's just off the low mark when just running around when stuck in traffgic Hot day 100 plus Fan comes on at about the 5/8 mark, thats just above the half way portion on my 97 all I know everything is working as it is suppose to. Right lower inside calf does get warm on long rides were it is 100 plus ansd you on the bike say a full tank 2 hours? but for the most part way tolerable. Not like my 87 VFR, now that was a cooker on the inside lower legs. but that too never said hot on th gauge, so all is well
