    Whats This Button For?

Hi everyone. Its a public holiday here on the Gold Coast of Queensland and as it is raining on and off I have decided to give the bike a polish. I was just wondering can someone tell me what is the button just below the tacho for on my 2002 Vtec? as I dont have an owners manual to refer to. Thanks:confused:

The button below the tach is the ejection seat activation button. lol j/k It might be to reset the odometer but I cannot say for sure cause your bike is newer than mine :p

Not sure about the 02 but my 06 has a button under the left LCD that switches the display from water temp to outside air temp and right side button is odometer reset. With the key on if you press both it goes into clock adjust mode.

Setting your clock - I hope!

Hi Warnzie - I'm hoping Mr Honda didnt change the way the clock is setup between my Y2K and your 6th Gen so here goes:

    1. Turn the ignition to on

    2. Press and hold both the temp and trip buttons for more then 2 seconds then release - the display will now be in set mode - should be flashing.

    3. To set the hour, press and release the temp button until the desired hour and AM/PM setting are displayed.

    4. To set the minute, press and releasse the TRIP button until you get get the right minute.

    5. Because your living in Queensland - give the throttle five big twists to set the year back to the early 1900's:tongue:  sorry - couldn't help taking the piss!!

    6. Turn the ignition off to lock in the time display(or wait 30 seconds for the display to stop flashing automatically).

    Cheers,

    Skid

Thanks Skid. And you have told everybody you reside in the ACT, that took some guts lol say hello to Little Johnny & Kim if you see them lurking around the streets down there. Thanks for the heads up on the clock. There is still the rubber button which sticks out just below the tacho and to the right a little? It doesnt seem to do any thing nor does is feel like it does anything? Anyone with an 02' onwards whould have the same:(

Thanks to DAFFY67. The button under the tacho is to turn the HISS flashing light on or off on the dash. Well done DAFF I will be able to sleep well now:)

You know warnzie, I have a 2005 with the same little thingy under the tach (down and to the right), and I didn't know what the hell that was for either. I have my manual in the garage-think I'll go and see what the HISS is all about

Honda Ignition Security System=HISS= basically an immobiliser (i think).

Too easy Daffy - I think your right about your HISS system. If you try to use any other key but the one coded for your bike your not going anywhere - the key must be microchipped or something.

HISS could also stand for the Honda Installed Security Snake (supplied pet Taipan snake that coils up under the front fairing). Now that could make a potential bike thief reconsider the wisdom of their actions!

I was told by the dealer that you can lose both original keys, and get one set after that so 4 keys in all. After that it's an ignition system change as no more codes and key sets are available for the modules installed on your particular bike.
