When you get done synching them you will know that you do not.

Inability to run smoothly at a steady speed or at idle and surging at low speeds are 2 common symptoms.

The most likely symptom of un-synced carbs will be abnormal throttle response & possibly a minor vibration. If you have access to a guage set, it's not hard & cheap to do. Try it just for the learning experience. It was spelled out completely in my Hawk GT maintenance manual.

    KC-10 FE out...

the bike once started runs super sweet at 60km /h ( 45mph?) above that it seems to struggle..

    Thats probably the issue..

i used to have a nice set of gauges but i gave them away when i sold my kawi...i had no intention of riding again until they passed a law in toronto that stated that motorcycles could park for free in downtown toronto.

I saw what looks like a good set on ebay for $100.oo plus shipping and think I might go with them...

    thanks for the advice

From your other post you stated it has a jet kit, did you install it ? If you did or did not, what did you run the needles at and what did you install for jets? On a stock bike a tiny bit of jetting goes a long way. Dynojet needles are way to aggresive for any street use and the jets are about the same and the numbering on Dynojet jets does not match OEM sizes. If your anything like me I would prefer my bike run perfect than stumble through the throttle for a possible gain that is not there.

Wait a second there Davey, i don't think the synch has anything to do with your problem. Synch problems are most apparent at low and moderate speeds with small throttle openings.

Instead, the needle setting or wrong main jet are the most likely issues. Replace the plugs if they appear fouled.

+1 with Squirrel. Keg of beer say's it way to fat on the main or needles are too high....Two kegs say's both. Jet kits are evil.

My understanding from way back when I used to sync my own carbs (FI on all but 1 of my bikes now) is that an early sign of needing a sync is an unsteady idle.

One thing to look at, if the carbs or bike has been apart is the drain hose from the carb ( some older bikes - like my old EX500 had em) can be routed incorrectly. And by 'Bernoulli' effect cause higher speed stumble and missing symptoms. I did that by accident - re-routed the hose. Sucked bad until I put the hose back to the original location (for the old EX it was right behind the swing arm pivot), then all was fine.

I've long since dumped alot of my tuning skills due to FI bikes but carbs are pretty fun to work on and adjust. You listen to the exhaust on/off throttle, check the plugs, etc... Of course, if you aren't into it, it can just be a big pain in the arse!

    good luck!
