Well, I've not sold my 98viffer so I think I am gonna keep it. I messed up and rode a cbr1000 and couldn't believe how light it was, or the insane power. But this winter, I want to give the viffer some flash. I know I am gonna jet coat the exhaust cause that just looks too too hot.......and...a high mount arrow or staintune....maybe a hid headlight kit.......uhhh a seagant seat with red piping.......uhmm.....polishing the frame and swing arm(can I do that myself????).......a gold chain.......but the biggest problem....... I am thinking about powder coating gold or polishing my wheels. What do you guys think???? yeah or nah? Lets see some pics of some hot wheels! I need ideas!!

dude, I was thinking of powder coating my wheels gold also as I used to really dig the 916 when it had them gold. I think you can polish the frame yourself but I'll not swear to it as I have never done it. I think most any aluminum part can be polished to a pretty good shine. what is jet coated exhaust?

Jet coating is a ceramic coating, holds up much better to heat than just about anything else. To polish to an insanely bright polish get a hold of some jewelers rouge of other polishing rouges. see www.eastwood.com they also show some powder coating examples. But for powder coating see www.pendrypowdercoatings.com/ they have a better selection & better examples. If some one is interested I could take some rims in to coat over the winter, but I'd like to do my own first before experimenting on someone elses. This is more of a hobby for me so I'd like to practice on my own stuff vs. someone else's before I agree to something similar for profit.

    powder coating

I just saw vfrmonkey's 800. that underseat exhaust is the sh**. I have to figure out how to do that. I'll go to a custom exhaust shop and get a price on a mid pipe. Brad emailed me the entire process on how he installed the underseat. I've got ta try that now too LOL......Yep! Well powder coating seems to get the nod with me. Black or gold...someone check out bikepics.com. the guy that has the orange 98viffer...yes I said orange... is freakin' nice!! Thanks for the input guys. ride safe and have a good Thanksgiving. Be Easy.

I've have REALLY wanted to powder coat my rims gold. I thought about red, but once I saw what gold looked like, I knew that was the right color. Check out j.davis's bike:

I think it looks sweet. I have been looking at prices, and it ain't cheap - about 250 dollars for each wheel here in San Francisco (I'm sure it's more here). If anybody knows a cheaper way of doing it, I would be interested.

Find some one that does it as more of a hobby or side line, you would only need a regular sized conventional oven to cure them. You can acheive good results w/ low end equiptment w/ good prep. People that do it professionally have lots of $$$$$ tied up in equiptment so prices are high. I've checked into opening up a business doing powder coating, ceramic & plateing(chrome etc.) figure I could start out on a small scale for about $350K. As soon as I get done w/ the ex wife payments I may consider going that route. Another place you could check is some tire shops have equiptment for reconditioning auto/truck rims. I had a set of rims off my enclosed trailer done for $15 per rim( I get a little discount, because of the amount of $$ the company I work for spends there about $10mil a year) I had them do them only because I didn't have any aluminum oxide abrasive on hand & the rims where very hard to clean up w/o it glass bead just wasn't cutting it.

    Update

Well......I got some of the stuff done. What's really been holding me up is the constant urge to buy a 954......Just like the look of 'em. I just missed on one at a VW dealership.....$4995. It sat in the dealer showroom for about six months, and the original price was $6995 The thing had 3k. I got the price down to $4700 because neither of the rear blinkers worked on the hotbodies kit.....upon close inspection I noticed the tails weren't tied into the harness....I didn't tell the salesman that though. I "did" need tires tires too! I went home, thought about it, came back.....GONE! I would have cramped my style a little bit too with the checking account, cause I didnt wanna finance.
Anyway I got DB windshield, sargent seat and a Hid Kit. I'm on the exhaust now. I'm trying to fabricate a underseat with my current TB and trackin' down factory parts so the bike can go back to stock.....OH bOy!....This hobby **it is expensive!! I decided not to polish the frame, but to just give everthing a good cleaning. I'd be an animal trying to keep the sucka clean and polished LOL. Rims!.....ahh yes...the rims....They are getting finished in a gloss black. Plenty of clear!! I know paint isn't as durable, but I wanted an almost liquid finish. The rear will get finished with a 190 tire. IDEAS?? COMMENTS??

    I still ain't done!!

Well money slows everthing down ya know! I broke down and polished the wheels. I was going to get them chromed, then decided on "new" black paint, and now I've polished them. I just stripped the paint off and went at it with mothers. I've found that if I use the tripoli rogues, there is an even more brillant shine. I think I am goin to tackle the whole wheel instead of the outer lip. I also bought one of those aluminum chain guards and polished that too. It really aint that bad of a job. It's a good rainy day project....
