Hello all, I have an 84 magna with a starting issue that I need help with, i'm hoping someone can show me the light. When I try to start it first thing in the day, the engine cranks but it wont turn over. If I leave it, and return later, it starts right up. I've waited as short as 15 minutes before successfully starting it. It sits outside(im in FL) with a cover. I recently did a complete carb cleaning, so its not gummed up carbs. The only 2 factors I can think of are 1) sun warming it up once the cover is taken off 2) fuel related. Anyone have any ideas? Vacuum lines that dont work unless heated by sun, fuel pump issues, anything. Thanks in advance.
whats your pilot jet setting? Turn one in until it seats gently. Count the turns. Should be around 2 1/2 to 3 turns out. The pilot circuit could also be dirty/plugged partially.
................................ Are you using choke to start ?? Possibly you're flooding plugs with excess fuel if you're using the choke. A well tuned bike with clean, properly adjusted carbs needs no choke to start in warm weather.
