Just purchased a new high-mount Staintune for my '98, and am in the processing of installing it. The process has been easy and straightforward up to a point, but now I've hit a snag. There are 3 mounting points - one at the original pipe/header clamp, one at the OEM muffler point near the passenger footpeg, and one at the extreme rear of the pipe (a welded bracket with an integral pre-threaded nut). A separate stainless "T" shaped bracket is provided which connects the rear muffler bracket with a bolt (conveniently not provided) to some unknown location on the bike (no specific instructions regarding this last step).

Has anybody installed one of these, and if so, where does the rear bracket attach to the bike? The bracket (brace) has three pre-drilled holes - one for the muffler bolt and two others at the top of the bracket (brace). The muffler seems pretty rigid as is (already bolted to the OEM connection) but there's alot of rear cantilever, so I feel the rear bracket (brace) should be installed to eliminate metal fatigue due to excessive flexing. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I believe one go to the foot peg mount, and the other go to the rear grap handle mount. Some one here can help you soon.

    Hi OG,
On my '95, there is a predrilled hole in the rear sub-frame, under the rear bodywork. Check that. You'll love that pipe!
    Cheers!

I had never thought of the bracket attaching to the grab handle - which probably uses the same allen-head bolts, thus the reason for no bolts. It makes sense, and if you look at a file photo (see below) you can see that the bracket pretty much aligns vertically with the grab handle mounting bolts. So yeah, I think you're right, Scub. Thanks.

Craig, I actually had a 95 a few years ago, but I think the subframe might be a little different on the later 5th gen bikes, so I don't know about the pre-drilled hole as I haven't pulled the plastic. I think Scubalong has it right - the two pre-drilled holes in the bracket have the same center to center spacing as the bolts holding down the passenger grab handles. The grab handles on the earlier 4th gen bikes like yours were aluminum instead of that funky looking plastic stuff, and they are really beautiful when polished up. I don't know why Honda went to plastic on the later bikes. Cost? Weight? Anyway, I digress. Thanks for the tip.

Oh, you're right - the pipe DOES sound great, not too loud, not too quiet, a nice deep "burble" that's just right. And that's with the baffle installed. Personally, I see no reason to remove the baffle - It sounds great right out of the box!
