I have a 1987 VFR700. This morning after months of planning, I rode it straight through from Grand Forks, ND to Denver, CO.

I do all my riding around 900ft, so I had/have no idea what to expect at higher elevations. At 5000 feet in Denver, I notice only minimal power loss, but the bike will not idle for more than 15-20 seconds. 24 hrs ago in North Dakota at 900 feet it idled just fine. Is it plausible to believe that the idle issue is due to the altitude?

Tomorrow I hope to ride it up Pikes Peak, but now I have some concern. I'm not aware of an idle adjust that's easily accesible, but I've never needed one. Is there an easy way to adjust the mixture on this bike?

i experienced a big idle drop on my way up went from 1400rpm to 1000 before i got to glen cove inn. bumped it up to 1200ish and kept going. by the top it was about 800rpm and not happy.

Wish i had some bike advise for you but the best i have is dont drop to idle on the way up and if you cant restart her for the trip down you can coast all the way down from pull off to pull off for photos

you could rejet the pilot jets if your idle adj screw cannot compensate enough for 4000 ft change in altitude. i ride at 1800 ft and have gone to 10000 ft with just idle adj
