My name is Josh, I live in central Missouri, I am originally from central Iowa. I am getting ready to turn 30 years old in a few weeks. I have been riding since I was 4 years old. My first bike was a Honda mini trail 50. Next bike was a Yamaha mini enduro 60. My family also started riding 3 wheelers around this time both for use on the farm and for recreation. Then I started racing motocross on a yz60. Then I moved onto a yz80. Next was a Honda cr125. When I turned 14 I was still racing the cr125 when I bought a Yamaha rx50mk which is basically a scaled down version of an old Yamaha 650 special. I rode this bike for 2 years and put 21000 miles on with it licensed as a moped. When I was 15 I bought a Suzuki gs550 from a family friend and rode that with dad. At this point I was racing a CR250 at the fairs around home. When I turned 17 I went and bought a hold over 93 GSXR1100. I had to sell this after my freshman year at college because I couldn't afford insurance with a couple tickets. When I got rid of it I bought a GS500. I rode this as my only transportation for 1 year then had to buy a car. During this time I bought a old Honda CL350 and fixed it up some. I sold the cl350 and found a 75 Suzuki GT750 water Buffalo. It didn't charge so I fixed that and then rode it for about a year. When a couple of guys offered me a good price for the Water Buffalo I had to sell. This time I wanted something sporty again so I found a ex race FZR1000 that was cheap. It had some electric troubles I couldn't figure out so I traded it in on a YZF 1000. I rode this for about 6 months then we moved to Missouri. I had stopped racing motocross a year or so before so we decided I would sell the dirt bike. When we moved to Missouri I didn't know anyone so I rode alone for a few weeks then decided I needed a 4 wheeler as they have more recreation riding areas here. I traded in the YZF for a Polaris 4 wheeler and this was the end of my road riding as my wife said pick street or dirt but not both. I raced that 4 wheeler in my first ATV hare scramble and I knew I wanted to race the entire series the next year. For the next year I raced and got pretty good at the Missouri Hare scrambles Championship Series. I longed to have another street bike but couldn't convince the wife as she hated riding and always worried. Now it has been 3 years without a street bike and I decided it was time to tell the wife that we were getting another street bike and if she wanted she could help pick one out. I was looking at Aprillia Tuonos Honda VFRs, Honda 954s, Suzuki Hayabusa, and Kawasaki zx-12 and the ZZR1200. After riding a friends 954 I decided I liked it but it would suck for the wife if she ever wanted to ride. We test rode a few of the others and she and I both liked the VFR best. I wish it had more power but that is my only complaint. I found a 2003 at the bottom of my budget that was in as new condition with 5000 miles on it. I went and bought it 2 weeks ago. I didn't like the tires being 4 years old and the front looked like it was starting to cup a little so I am waiting to get new Avons mounted. I have only put 165 miles on it the last week but I am looking forward to putting a few hundred on this weekend. Now you know my background in motorcycles. Later Josh
Welcome to VFRworld. if you have any questions about your VFR ,there are many members here who can help. Put some miles on the VFR and ride it like you stole it..lol
welcome to the site. I used to live in Columbia. I worked at the University Hospital for years. My son who just bought his first street bike lives about 20 miles from there with my ex. He's out here in Cali with me now but he will be returning to the centtral MO area at the end of the summer. I ride a VFR myself and I thought it was under powered at first but then realized how useable the power is and how well it performs for me. I think 95% of us have more power than we need on the street but there is no science behind my statistic, I just made it up. Again, welcome, and I enjoyed your bio. Very similar to mine except my wife said I can get as many bikes as I want. I currently have 6 but I have specific reasons for them all. hehe
