So, I'm taking in this whole VFR thing very slowly...

I hope you're doing well and your bikes are running well fellas. I'm 26. I bought my first motorcycle when I was 24. I believe I made an educated and thought out decision to end up on an ex500 (Kawaswaki Ninja 500)

View attachment 27010 (mods removed this attachment just because it wasnt a VFR, or Honda, or w/e. I'm an IT guy and a web developer... if space is that tight on these servers - at least let me know before you nazi down a pic you don't like)

I really liked that motorcycle. It was my only mode of transportation for almost seven months. I left a decent IT job with a company car to become an I.T. director somewhere else. I gave up the company car, and all that I owned was the Ninja.

I slammed it into the ground twice at low speed using too much front braking over gravel. By low speed I mean stopping at stop signs at about 3mph. I have the scars from the 400lbs resting over my ankle, whilst I yelled for a hobo to come help get it off of me. The way it fell, I was pinned and it had to be rolled back over my already compressed ankle to pick it up, and I just didn't have the strength... It fell sideways off a truck during an unload after the chain snapped, and I would drive it to work over a mountain in the pouring rain, and change in to my suit once I had arrived. I spent a good number of days very miserably trying to get that thing where I needed to be... but then just one weekend day with warm weather made me fall in love with the bike all over again. It was a time I will never forget. On to the Honda!

I sold the ninja to make another career move so that I had the money to move to Pittsburgh. The company I risked a lot for went under, and I ended up with nothing. One riding season passed while I slaved away at work without owning a bike. It SUCKED!

Seven days ago I came across a VFR 700 with a few issues:

So, I have this bike that I bought because it seemed like a logical step up from the old Ninja. I had no idea the following these bikes carried or why. I literally saw an exposed aluminum frame, >600cc displacement, adjustable suspension, and a dirt cheap price and decided I couldn't pass it up. The bike is a bit of a mess, and this is the best I have at the moment.

I have the lower fairings. She needs a little clean up, a new coat of paint on the plastics and tank, and a few bits here and there. I think it's going to a be a great bike for the investment when it's finished. Just gotta get it running correctly first.

Glad this forum is here, and hopefully I can help others after gaining some experience, myself. I'm just happy as can be that I have two wheels again!

Welcome to the forum! Lots of knowledgeable people here who'll be able to help you out with questions! Sounds like quite the experience - life is a hard teacher, but seems as though you're a tough student. Cheerio!

Thanks, sir. A phrase I've picked up and like to repeat is: "Life is a cruel teacher. She gives you the test first, and the lesson afterwards." Here's to diving in head-first on the VFR. To add some mechanical credentials - I've "been there and done that" in regard to cars. I've rebuilt engines from the crank up, I've replaced or repaired or rebuilt any part of the electronics, drive train, or suspension that you want to talk about on numerous cars. I've taken 130 HP engines and turned them in to 300 hp turbo monsters. Flipping cars through college bought my books : ] The only things I haven't worked on yet are automatic transmissions (I don't need these in my life) and carburetors! I'm feeling like I'm about to get in to the latter shortly.
