    Hello all

New to VFRs. actually not yet. but planning to buy one soon.

    a bit about me.
started riding in 2008. have a 08 Hyosung GT250R. Its in pieces right now because a cam chain tensioner failed and after i fixed it all i broke the screw for the camshaft housing while torquing it down. *oops. im trying to drill the screw out but that takes a lot of time.

i've also been looking for a different bike for a while now. but more i search about bikes, the more i am attracted towards older bikes. my friends say im loco for getting an old bike.

i've been eyeing a 1985 VFR750. the seller says all it needs is a battery and its good to go.

anyone have any pointers on any specific thing i should be looking at when looking at this bike? also, anything i should get a spare of?

well, If your planning on keeping the Hyosong then buy the older VF.....there is a problem, (not all) with the oiling system...top end is not getting enough oil and the cams are wearing out . they are HEAVY... parts for them are really hard to find. you will get a bunch of folks telling you what you should do from "walk away" to get it and restore the thing" almost every 85 "needs a new battery" and its good to go......if it has sat long enough for the battery to die it will need a carb cleaning;.. and probably new carb boots when you pull the old ones off . I would suggest to you that unless you are real keen on spending at least two weekends out of the riding season fixing the bke go ahead and get it.... BTW, the gen 1's are a quick bike thats for sure

in the end its is your money

its not in perfect condition cosmetically. some scratches and bruises. but mechanically it runs strong. i will be searching for the bellypan for this bike. i think that completes the look of any VFR.
